As sneakily as a certain tactical espionage action expert, Konami has been working on a brand new Castlevania game for iOS devices. Named Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls, the game will enter in closed beta in Japan.

The official website (in Japanese) gives a synopsis of the setting:

Eternal peace seems to have finally come to the world in a future where Count Dracula has completely disappeared... until someone decides to bring him back...

Players will take control of a mysterious newcomer to the series, Arima Genta, who will be aided throughout the game by his sidekick Lucy. The website also mentions that the game will support both solo and co-op play up to four players.

There is no word of a release date nor of an international release at the time of writing.

Cool, it seems a bit like harmony of despair in the way it's coop and you can choose from all the past characters.
But it's on mobile, so I'm expecting paid stuff?
Hopefully nothing too annoying like paying to play another level, or having to wait 12 hours etc.

Its like Konami just wants to continuously taunt us with what a great game dev they once were. You want more Silent Hill? Here's a great teaser for a game that we're about to cancel by treating our greatest mind like utter crap. You want more MGS? Here's Survive, a game no one wanted, lacking any of the real soul of the original series. You want new Castlevania? Well here's a new game... for mobile. I will give them kudos on Super Bomberman R though, it was a genuine Bomberman game with what appeared to be genuine thought and care behind the title, which is especially great to see considering Bomberman was not originally their IP.
