News: Square to merge with Enix

In the news today, Square and Enix shareholders approved the planned merger between the two companies at a meeting in Tokyo. They are now ready to merge together, as planned by April 1st. They also have agreed on one name to call the merged companies, "Kabushikigaisha Square Enix," or Square Enix Corporation in English. The merger, announced last year when Square shareholder Masafumi Miyamoto publicly expressed opposition which he saw as unjustly biased to Enix shareholders.

Final Fantasy X-2, which arrives in Japan March 13, this will probably be the last game to bear the Square name and logo (meaning the last game they ever make), while the last Enix game will be Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart, coming to the Game Boy Advance in Japan on March 29.

We are set back and ready for what these two companies will have in store for us in the future.

I learned about the merger last month when I visited RPGclassics.com as they made a poll about it. I think it's a great idea, both Square and Enix rpg games were great. Imagine how the next Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior are going to be after that. Hopefully, the games will come out better than ever.

It's not a news effectively...
I have heard for a long time that enix will buy squaresoft and even recently that squaresoft is only a name now.

This mean enix are the best editor in japan and wish to have no real opponent. As they have parts on game arts (lunar, grandia etc...) and now they merge with square i don't see who will oppose them for the best rpg editor in japan. Curiously enix is probably the less known of the three best (square, game arts and ... enix of course) and it's them who survive.

I don't like squaresoft and i'm happy that enix buy them, it's as if square is dead. Don't worry final fantasy fans there will be lots of new final fantasy games and probably forever.

I've known about this merger for ages... at least two months now. How is it only in the news now?

Oh, people: Take a closer look at the place. Square's exec committee and game devs are mostly staying on. Enix isn't "assimilating" Square, but rather merging. Square's free to roam the way it used to, but with Enix's resources behind it as well.

hmm, I know that the news about them merging is old, but this news is'nt. The news i put was about the confirmation about the merge.

It was announced that it will deffiantly take place now.

Sigfried, I think Square soft is the best and, I also think that Ideas from the Enix group would possibly MESS UP the FINAL FANTASY SERIES. Even though square kinda started to screw it up with the Fully online Rpg Final Fantasy 11. And how is this possible when square had a bunch of new Rpgs due by midway of next year.


And Lord Graga I don't think you have to worry about a Square-Enix logo coming up in the FFTA at all or ever. Since it is already made the way it is and mostly all they do in the translation over to america or Europe they just translate words and take out or edit a couple of things and unless Enix adds a lot to this game before it comes to the US or Eur there will be no Square-Enix logo

For the first point i imagine that when you have projects, it's not because of a merge you'll stop. So they continue to develop and they will in the future. Even if Enix buy completely square it wouldn't be of their interest to make the square logo disappears.

So for the second point, it's true and there will never be a square enix logo or even a single compagny on the market. Enix has parts on game arts but they still exist and are free to develop games they wish as well as Square.

Difference is that behind all of them is Enix.

I never liked the idea of enix and squaresoft merging, yes afraid that enix might screw up square........I don't trust it

Well I don't personally like enix that much. I think they might screw up square. Enix made the dragon warrior series which wasn't really a hit with me. I mean how are you supposed to find an item when you can't even see where it is? For every one of the dragon warrior games you needed a players guide of some sort. I hope squares games don't start having these qualitites.
