Nintendo Switch Online N64 controller officially sold out until 2022

n64.png

While the result of the emulated Nintendo 64 games on the Switch might have left fans wanting for more, others were eager to get their hands on a modernized N64 controller. However, if you didn't already get yours ordered, you likely won't be able to get your hands on one until next year, at the earliest. The $49.99 controller is sold out on both the Nintendo US and UK storefronts, with the former noting that while you can't order any for now, more controllers are on the way, and will be available sometime in 2022.

Got it. Paired up with PC just fine. Played some Duke Nukem 64. Retroarch sees it as a joycon. Kinda weird.

However, it will not pair up to my Switch on Atmosphere.. Even though I'm on the updated firmware and latest AMS. Interesting. It shows up as a Pro Controller.

Edit: Played some OoT and I had to up the sensitivity in Retroarch just to be able to run. Gross.

The build quality is pretty good. It's heavier than a regular N64 controller. To be expected given what's inside of it.
Thanks for another confirmation. I just connected my nes and snes controllers to my laptop emulators. Should I move over to Retroarch? I'm using nestopia and snes9x. I just don't want it to be overwhelming to configure each core in Retroarch. Can I use different controllers for different cores?

Unless you hacked your Switch is not worth it, the official Nintendo 64 emulation is terrible on the Switch. Heck is better on the Wii and that thing is two console generations ago!
Been using it on PC.

Can you? Yeah.. It's pretty much the same process. Unless there's a configuration that allows you to save specific controllers as priority to the cores.

It's all in one place so it's easier.

Nestopia and snes9x is on retroarch

I use mesen core for nes. It's the most accurate.

And bsnes accurate for SNES.

Each cores default settings should be good.

For controllers I use the Xbox controller and defaults for that is good. I don't know about the N64 controller.

What's the best retroarch core? I had issues with angrylion not being perfect.
Been using the Mupen core with the Parallel RDP, iirc. YMMV... N64 emulation is still far from perfect.

I still use quickplay with all the emulators. Just wasn't sure as I'm not sure when some of these emulators were last updated.

Not worth buying at the moment either way.
Next year when more controllers are released MAYBE Nintendo will release more games for n64 switch.

Nothing like putting people down over a preference in input, huh?

Edit: I forget that a lot of you choose some of the dumbest things to be petty about.

:rofl2:
To be fair, the user didn't put down any one. Just gave their opinion about the controller, just as you and others in this topic have.

Looks like the controller was in stock for ~5 minutes this morning just after 8AM in the UK, wasn't at my computer to be able to try and order though.

It's always nice to see retro Nintendo controllers being brought back into print.

My favorite, the GameCube controllers are like in print for a limited time per console generation and then the price increases. God damn Nintendo for behaving like scalpers.

Nintendo don't make enough of any hardware, I don't think they ever have. They love artificial scarcity.

Is Nintendo 64, the best core depends on what games you play the most. Check the compatibility list for each one and pick the one that fits better on the games you play.

Yes is ridiculous we have almost perfect PS2 emulation while Nintendo 64 still causes trouble but whatever.

I made a fork of BetterJoy that does a better job of getting the full analog range and gives rumble (via xinput) for anyone that wants to use theirs on the PC (I recommend installing HID Guardian too):

BetterJoy + N64
Impressive! Will try this out when I get home!

They even made Super Mario 3D All-Stars "limited edition" on the eShop as they'd remove it later, or was that a different game? Really stupid move.
