so... i updated to 2.7d and QuakeDS went from not booting at all to stalling on "FAT init..."

Guess they're still "working on it"?

This is on an M3 Real btw

I mean before the update it wasn't booting. After the update, it hangs on "FAT init..."

I have the QuakeDS.NDS file in the root and a id1 folder with PAK0.PAK and the config file.

it isn't a DLDI patch problem, i'm fairly sure of that. Not sure what it is though.

Yo. I'm hoping to get the first playable to Q2 on the DS out within the next few weeks. A lot of progress has been made since that video, and I'm really excited about letting people play

To answer people's questions - yes I'm aware that some problems were introduced into QDS r3 that weren't present in pre2. These are not trivial to fix, but I'm getting help on this so stay tuned. I've also learnt a great deal in the last few weeks of Q2, and I hope to roll those improvements into to the main Q1 code base too. I'll release those changes when I can find the time.

@tau, yeah that's a likely to be a dldi problem. That's the step where I initialise the dldi patch, and if the patch is knackered then it'll hang there. If it fails to initialise your flash card it'll leave a message. The "fat init" step is nothing to do with pak files or anything else...since it won't be able to find them until the dldi driver is initialised!

And finally, the exram build is to allow you to play ALL mods and total conversions on your DS. If you're not playing these games then using the exram build will only slow down your game, since slot-2 memory is soooo sloooowwww...

Tbh I've heard nothing good about the M3 Real, sorry. I think a lot of people have problems with homebrew on this card - hopefully they'll work these problems out soon!
One thing to try would be to turn off the dldi autopatcher if your card has one. If you don't have to patch the program before running it (and can't turn off the autopatcher) then get in contact with me and I'll try and sort something out for you! dldi autopatching causes lots of problems and I wouldn't touch it with a stick ;-)

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
