I just bought a new switch and it came with firmware 1.0.0 ... Should i update to 3.0.0 ? and what is the best way to do so?
in the thread https://gbatemp.net/threads/switch-hacking-homebrew-discussion.464282/Stay on 1.0.0. (Lower is always better!)
And don't believe the whispers of snake oil salesmen.
Do not update from 1.0.0 if you want custom firmware/emunand!
1.0.0 is the only publicly known firmware with a kernel and trustzone exploit, that combined will allow for custom firmware.
SciresM has made it his goal to get emuNAND working this year on 1.0.0, which will allow you to play newer games from 1.0.0 without updating.
The spread of information is very convoluted at the moment due to several large announcements and teasers. But the lower your firmware the better, and right now 1.0.0 is the golden firmware.Thank you all for your replays, i will stay on 1.0.0 FW for now ...
but why does we have a pined thread recommending to update 3.0.0 when you are in lower firmware ? it seems misleading to me
emuNAND from 1.0.0 should allow people to play 3.0.0 games and up.if you dont care about the games stay on 1.0.0

True, but it's at least guaranteed for 1.0.0 without a chip, and actively being worked on. While higher firms might never get emuNAND without a chip.this year, meaning not now
which means, the op wont be able to play a lot of games till then
