Team Xecuter reveal info on upcoming Switch modchip

SwitchTX.jpg

Just over a week ago, team Xecuter announced that they are working on a soon-to-be-revealed modchip for the Nintendo Switch. This was big news because modchip devices are usually used to circumvent anti-piracy measures on many digital platforms, but mainly gaming systems, and to see one already in the works for a machine that is only 10 months old is very rare.

Since then the team have been quiet, no one knows what the device will look like, how it will work, or when they can get their hands on one - but GBAtemp can exclusively reveal today that there will be BOTH a solder AND solderless option of team Xecuter's Nintendo Switch modchip.

Here is a direct quote from team Xecuter:

For now, I can tell you there is a solder and solderless version. We have quite a lot in the works, you will have more info soon.

The difference in pricing should be interesting in the two versions of the device, but at least you can now rest safely, knowing that the team will be providing options for whatever the Xecuter Switch modchip turns out to be.

Stay tuned to GBAtemp for more info in the upcoming weeks.

Can someone explain how the whole responsible disclosure thing even applies in a case where no software patch can mitigate the issue?
Leaving aside that there is nothing even close to a widely accepted policy on the matter (we don't even have a widely accepted point at which one becomes a computer expert).

Could be a red herring, or delaying tactic.

More likely though it is one of those things that started off sounding good so feature creep happens and now everybody gets it. See also how most health and safety wonks would have you kitted for chemical warfare, immediate area evacuated and cordoned off, with fire service and ambulance on standby where most people that actually do the action in question would probably rock up in trainers and a tshirt with a screwdriver in hand.

With only the context of the screens before I am very much leaving malice on the table as well.

Hmmm..... maybe they’ve seen the production run start, and now they’re “overexcited”
That's probably it. Or maybe they're pulling a WiiKeyU and saying "eh, they've promised this product will be a thing, might as well take preorders!" If that's the case, avoid that site like the plague until TX either adds them to their list of partners or officially announces preorders themselves

they have exactly 3 months to sell their product. or they make it really future proof by hacking makiro-boards.

I doubt they will release it anytime soon. wiiKeyÜ all over again.

This thread is like a bad Rollercoaster. So much derailing over the small things. Xecuter is still "in the game" so to speak. Granted, the software side will more than likely see more traffic. Still there are few who prefer a hardware modification for their own reasons. I'm curious as to how this will all play out. Is it a cold war?...or a space race?... Or both? I don't know anymore.

Let's hope it's true, they can't wait much longer or people will simply just wait for SciresM free cfw in a few months.
Maybe that news is true and TX is simply scared to have any leaks and so possibles clones of their product, who knows, they seemed super paranoid releasing very few info about it.

Yeah but who updated to FW5+ will probably have to go for TX or wait until a new exploit gets released which probably will take a long time since I bet devs\hackers will probably be making new things for the CFW than trying to find new exploits.

I would never pre-order anything to hack any console my self...

Nope. Summer 2018 tentative release for CFW on all FW for current hardware if I understood correctly.

why would they release it with CFW in summer? then their product is obsolete at best.
There are some people that, in the end, would rather have a hardmod. I could see this still being beneficial if it also soldered onto NAND traces to allow for reflashing, as well, for brick protection
