Team Xecuter reveal info on upcoming Switch modchip

SwitchTX.jpg

Just over a week ago, team Xecuter announced that they are working on a soon-to-be-revealed modchip for the Nintendo Switch. This was big news because modchip devices are usually used to circumvent anti-piracy measures on many digital platforms, but mainly gaming systems, and to see one already in the works for a machine that is only 10 months old is very rare.

Since then the team have been quiet, no one knows what the device will look like, how it will work, or when they can get their hands on one - but GBAtemp can exclusively reveal today that there will be BOTH a solder AND solderless option of team Xecuter's Nintendo Switch modchip.

Here is a direct quote from team Xecuter:

For now, I can tell you there is a solder and solderless version. We have quite a lot in the works, you will have more info soon.

The difference in pricing should be interesting in the two versions of the device, but at least you can now rest safely, knowing that the team will be providing options for whatever the Xecuter Switch modchip turns out to be.

Stay tuned to GBAtemp for more info in the upcoming weeks.

Gateway bricked because of other cards adding support, so they added the brickcode to keep everything on their cards, which was unethical. This is most likely a glitch chip, unless they have a new profound exploit nobody has seen yet.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

*cough* Boot9Strap * cough*

If it is hardware it is going to be a lot harder to path than re-implementing a bit of code. Nintendo can't really release a software patch for a hardware exploit (which is what a modchip is)
Not sure if this counts, but they did fix the Tweezers Attack for the Wii. Though, all that really was was simply locking the sensitive sectors while MIOS was running (so, simple IOS update).

Poor "I do tiny soldering" guy
*sniffle*

but yeah usually solderless solutions do some with inherent risks of becoming dislodged or shorting....I guess it all boils down to how they achieve the solderless solution, if its like the original Xbox style where its screwed in place I could be fairly sturdy, but if its a clip/clamp solution you always hear of people bending pins, or snapping connectors before they even open the box (although that's usually with teams with crap QC, team executer are usually pretty good)

From the (really uninformative, 2 sentence) article I just read on WiiBrew, that exploit happened while the system was running. This happens before the system boots (as shown by their Team Xecuter icon instead of the Nintendo icon) which means that it most likely happens in bootROM, which is unpatchable (the eFuses that do patch the bootROM have already been set).

Both options are going to be a modchip. Both options will require one to open the device. Both options will almost certainly offer the same feature set. The main differences will be price and durability.
it could also be similar an e3 flasher type scenario
where yo have chip clip to hack or downgrade your OFW , or you can leave it in place and maybe some other extra wires need to be soldered too to get a dual boot system , like with the e3 sata station

They had a dual boot/nand system called demon for the 360 so you never know :)
The DemoN is why I was thinking the soldered solution will be the only way to have a dual nand setup as with the 360 RGH, dual nand required a lot more soldering than a standard RGH.

I'm gonna be real, the solderless chip will likely be like 2x as expensive as the solderable one.

Im going to assume:

Soldered: best option if you can handle it, will work 100% for anyone, hidden away, etc.

solderless: Probably not a good option for anyone thats always using switch in tablet mode, or on the move, then again you can always remove it if you want to do this.
may be fragile, and not work 100% and may need to be fidgeted around a bit. A wiggle here or there, may even work through the dock (since the dock goes into the USB-C port)

Still, id prefer solderless, then again, i think a flash card would be best, but hey! one day lets hope!

So who are the real wizards? Team Xecuter or the self-proclaimed "wizards" in the switchhax discord channels? I'm confused. Maybe they'll wave their wands and make magic soon or maybe they'll post another dumb cryptic tweet.
