seems as if nintendo is watching gbatemp very closely, a patch for a possible exploit was released yesterday in the newest wii u update only a couple of days after the corrupt mii to wii u method to possibly exploit wii u mode was talked about.

watch what you say if you don't want something easily patched. we're being watched.

if you haven't updated to 3.1.0 please check out this post. if there's a possibility to exploit, this could be it, especially if nintendo is hiding it. if you know anything about what you're doing, this could be worth your time.
thanks

and as a side note, don't update to 3.1.0 like I did!

a second side note, this means that nintendo CAN in fact edit vwii mode, as the mii maker there doesn't crash anymore. just for those that argue that nintendo can't touch it.

I always update since I don't plan to hack the Wii U any time in the forseeable future. I hacked the Wii to create Homebrew software and that's about it. Devolution is a huge plus^^

I would love to update in october, I'm pretty sure this latest update though was in fact to cover up any possible exploits and had no benefit whatsoever.

I believe the new Update was to prepare for the big fall update (once summer update) to ease things over, like background operations to ensure the update for fall goes on with ease. like what they did with the 3DS update in US before the new 3DS games came, since we euorpeans got the 3DS update first and it was buggy so we had a patch later...

it could be, i just find it weird that the wii u would crash with a corrupted mii before, but now it won't.

Oh yeah, because GBATemp is a meeting place for hackers and the sort who actually make those exploits. Oh wait, it isn't, it's just where newbies find instructions on how to use'em. :yay:

Don't worry lads, Nintendo no doubt has their eyes set on bigger fishies to fry - anything discussed here is likely to be already known to them.

Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.
Vague description.. Stay away.

This update adds the ability for nintendo to gain access to your wiiu vwii mode!

Performance enhancements such as reduced times to start up Wii U console and launch built-in applications, more convenient downloads via a standby mode that the system uses to complete downloads, and a Wii Mode update to make it easier to launch directly into Wii Mode

Ohhh, so you guys reached a point where your Mii idea stopped? I posted on the other thread. it could have been PURELY by accident. Whenever an exploit is released and the dev environment is ready (tri-core linux) (SDK exists but is not shared openly) THEN step one is stop updates for Wii U. I imagine this given other scenes. THEN a way to analyze/intercept full updates and have a way to apply what is NEEDED. I hope it goes this way.

it didn't stop, it just slowed a bit. but this most recent update is pretty much pointless, the fall update will be a big one that we have to worry about.

Uploading a corrupt Mii by itself is not exploitable if it doesn't have any exploitable strings that you could use to upload the exploit code into the memory before the console resets. Additionally it is unknown whether memory is flushed or not before switching modes. As such, it's a "possible exploit" just because we don't know whether it's usable or not - you could corrupt any file and it'd make the console go bonkers.

I think GBATemp should block Nintendo's IPs, and keep out lurkers entirely. You want to view something on GBATemp? Become a member. A combination of those two things should help keep our posts a bit more hush-hush, because right now we're a direct line-of-site for Nintendo, and it sucks. Afterall, the banner at the top of the page says "Underground Gaming Community". Maybe we should invoke an invite-only joining system...

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

i think only the red mario kart edition phat was v5
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
