It would be more relevant and interesting to see both of these maps broken down by individual counties, or by square mile, rather than whole states. Because even in those "red states" there are densely populated blue cities where the numbers for these issues likely spike. And there's the demographic component to consider as well ... single motherhood is at approx 16.7% for whites, 25% for latino, and 45.6% for blacks in the US. And the Carolinas down to Louisiana, when taking the states as a whole, have the highest per capita black populations in the country. TX and New Mexico have much higher latino populations than average. So, both of these maps are technically accurate, but as they say the devil's in the details.

That's one way to admit to gerrymandering and voter suppression, but it still speaks to a number of failures on behalf of the state governments. If they can't provide even for their rural communities, then they certainly can't provide for big cities, and vice versa.

The numbers he cited are probably accurate, but there are a range of historic and systemic causes for that which cannot be overlooked. Lest we forget which party continues to fly the confederate flag. The North won the Civil War, but the South won Reconstruction.

That those states have cities, and cities tend to vote blue? Are you serious?

No state is solid blue, or solid red. Many are very nearly 50/50 and just lean one way or the other, even if reliably. The population of every state is politically mixed.

Test scores were not a factor on either map. The minority population per capita probably does affect the single motherhood statistic when taking these states as a whole, because the demographic statistics are what they are. As for the dropout rate, I don't really see a correlation either way in @Veho's map. Kentucky's bad, but so are California and New York. Some 'red states' on that map have among the best percentages. Whether the same demographic issues play a role on the h.s. dropout rate as it does for single motherhood would just be speculation, but teenaged girls who get pregnant do frequently drop out of school.

I didn't post those maps and I don't appreciate you calling my post "thinly veiled racism." I consider it a very unfortunate situation and I don't think it's as easily fixed as we would all wish.

Real reasons for rising crime

1. Defunding the police.
2. DA's not prosecuting crime.
3. If a crime is prosecuted, the charges are always downgraded and there's no jail time.
