There is a lot of 3k3y version, for your purpose just find one that supports 2000x and 2100x.

I can't seem to find one that explicitly says 2000x or 2100x... Modchip Direct actually says it doesn't support them, despite being SATA.
Can you link me to one that supports the 2100x that ships to America? If it's against forum rules I understand, but I don't see why it would be.

Funny. I just checked 3k3y forum website. It appears they scrapped the idea of making 200x and 210x daughter board (which were supposed to be out on August) and went with 3KR (a single 3k3y daughter board that supports 200x, 210x, 250x, 300x, and 400x).

A tester here posted some hands on experience with this 3KR,

So... what does that mean, that I have to wait? I know I saw a video on YouTube on how to install one of those, so obviously someone was able to get one.

Also, if it says it supports 250x, 300x, 400x, how would that work if those models require soldering while 2000x and 2100x don't?

Looks like you have to wait.

Look at the link I posted. It has several cable connectors, I imagine they are for different models. And there is a soldering point at the back of the daughter board to pick which model you are using.

I thought 2000x and 2100x were solderless though? Or would I only need the soldering points to attach it to a newer model?

What would happen if I just bought the SATA kit, even though it says it doesn't work on the slims... would it actually not work? Since other than those, aren't the only SATA models the third-generation fats?

They are solderless. if you look at the picture it says do nothing for 200x and 210x. Use solder to bridge Link 4 and 3 if you have 250x and 300x. Use solder to bridge Link 2 and Link 1 for Super Slim.

And you only need to solder onto the motherboard if you have 250x, 300x, and 400x. The link I showed you shows a tester who use 3KR on Super Slim. Just read it.

It would not work if you just bought a SATA kit.

Oh, OK, I wasn't sure what that X meant.

Any idea when that will be released, then? I don't mind waiting but I thought the 3K3ys were already shipping. Or what about a different ODE like Cobra's... are there any that work right now with 2100x?

Strange, cause I just looked over the 2000x manual Sony posted on the website: http://us.playstation.com/support/manuals/ps3/

These are the only two mentions of vertical in the instruction manual,

So what manual are you referring to exactly? Because nothing in those two instances suggest that Sony discouraged vertical position.
Weird, I could have sworn I read in the manual just 2 weeks ago that you shouldn't use the PS3 2000 vertically and I even recall a discussion about it in some PS3 forum. Either way, the understanding of the 2000 model is that it's the worst of the Slim series and therefore should be avoided if you can get your hands on a 2100 or a 2500.

OK, so I went to a GameStop store that had only the 120GB slims, not the 160 or 320. They had two in stock, I asked to check both. One was a 2000, the other a 2100.

So I got the 2100. Model number is CECH-2101A. That's good, right?

It's virtually inaudible, as well. Much quieter than that super-slim. The plastic is a bit dinged up and has some marks on it, but I figure it's better to have a working motherboard than nice-looking case :P

Are there cheap replacement shells I could put on there? Or maybe I'll just buy a broken slim and gut it.

Question:
I noticed on the normal slim, there's an option that says "remove disc" that ejects the disc.

Is there some special version of the firmware for the super-slims that removes that option? Or does it just not work if you try it? Since I'm sure there's no way it can magically pop the disc out due to the disc having to be pressed on the spindle by hand.

Um.. since Super Slim uses top loading method, the only way to eject disc is through manual intervention.

There are a lot of third party shell at ebay. Replacing shell isn't a big problem. Go watch a Slim teardown video online.

Yes, I know that. But if you go over to the disc, press Triangle, you'll see an option that says "remove disc".

On the fat and slim, it ejects the disc. Does that option also show up on the super-slim? I'm just curious since as far as I know, the super-slim uses the same firmware as the other models, so how would it know to hide the "remove disc" option?

Also, obviously people on 3k3y forums aren't going to recommend a competitor's product :P

I checked my Super Slim, it does hide the option. if I recall properly, its like the PSP firmware, where the each console has the same firmware but different modules (not sure if this is the correct word for it). the firmware could also be checking what hardware its running on and hide the "remove disc" option if it's running on a Super Slim.

Ah, thanks for letting me know. I was going to try to ask some of my friends to see if I could figure it out, purely out of curiosity.

I wonder how homebrew handles it (for example, MultiMan has the remove disc option for me too)... or if they're all smart enough. Then again, super-slim can't run CFW, can it?
