I had the same problem, getting lots of DRE's. I was burning iso's in nero with "determine max speed" on, while downloading stuff and browsing the web.

Now I burn them in 4x and don't touch the PC while it's burning. No more DRE's.

I've never been convinced if you browse the web (i.e. use resources) whilst burning a disc you will muck it up. Surely the technology in modern burners are not so easily befuddled.

maw.

strangely, my wiikey won't load taiyo yuden media :/ i've tried TY Dvd-r 8x and 16x on a few games, no luck. my cheap compusa DVD+r however run flawlessly. perhaps the high end quality doesn't always work

Perhaps the Taiyo Yuden medias are fake? Did you check the manufacturer ID hidden inside the DVD?

I had a few DREs with my WiiKey actually.

For StarFox Assault, that one was really tough, I had to burn it at 2x speed to get it right...failed on 4x (what I usually use) and 8x (just plain risk)

Red Steel gave me a problem on all speeds. That's when I switched to DVD+R media, suddenly it worked...strange stuff.

I used Verbatim DVD-R 16x media and HP DVD+R 16x media. I almost lost hope with Red Steel.

Yeah, i wish my Yudens were fake. At least i won't feel so bummed out about getting DREs on expensive medias. But the media codes on these discs are TYG02/03.

My wiikey setup disc burned with Yuden worked fine. I'm really thinking some games are selective about media brand/type.

I think a lot has to do with the burner too. I have a Pioneer 111d. I've burned on Sony DVD+R's and these junky Optimum DVD+R's I had lying around. No DRE's. But to be safe, I have a spindle of Verbatim DVD-R's on the way...

It has been known that the Pioneer 110/111/112 series are one of the most reliable burners. It is thought that the 110d is the MOST stable among them all...but good luck finding it, I'd recommend the 111d personally. Gonna pick it up with some Taiyo Yuden DVD-R discs in the next few weeks.

My Toshiba-Samsung Software Technology one sucks donkey balls.

personally i have a 110D and its great, no problems so far whatsoever! should still be able to find them, but i don't see why a 111D wouldn't suffice

i have finally solved my problem. Earlier I had DRE's on my Yuden backups burnt with Nero... well, i switched to IMGBURN, burned at 8x (my disc is TYG02) and everything's perfect.

with a pioneer111d - the following media worked fine on wii..

taiyo yuden/thats 8x dvd-r (japan) (TYG02) - $0.57 AU
verbatim/mitsubishi azo 16x dvd-r (taiwan) (MCC 03RG20) - $0.50 AU
philips 8x/imation 16x dvd-r (taiwan) (FUJIFILM03) - $0.38 AU

and most TDK media is crap - stay away.

also, make sure you burn speed is 'reasonable' - eg. don't burn at a speed your computer can't keep up with (eg. usb2 hdd -> ide burner = 6x max).

lastly - burn images with imgburn.. its easier anyway (right click file, burn with imgburn
