My question is, why has someone not tried to get a 3DS version of the Mupen64 core on RetroArch working?
I'm have no idea about N64, but ppsspp isn't been brought over because it uses opengl(and it will be too slow even with opengl) which the 3ds does not support. So no opengl cores for 3ds.

Then beauty of Mupen64 is that it's a modular emulator, so a video plugin for the 3DS could be adopted. PPSSPP doesn't support plugins though, and can only use OGL or DirectX (on Windows).

This thread seems to pop up a lot. Even if you don't like the site's search function, Google is very robust. A quick search with google using something like
Code:
site:gbatemp.net 3DS N64 Emulator
would have found the answers you seek.

I think Google dorks are much less known than a forum's search bar. :)

You shouldn't be having a problem with that though, I can play Super Smash Bros. Brawl at 60fps with 6GB and a 3.20 GHz AMD processor.
You may want to scan your computer for viruses and check your Task Manager for anything taking up all your resources.
I Dunno. I used my own legit (dumped) copy of New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Dolphin (latest) froze and couldn't even start the game.

If you want N64 emulation then use your phone if you have one. Jailbreak it, root it, do whatever
You don't have to root an Android to get an N64 emulator.
Meh, whatever, I did it anyway. :P (For the record, not because of the emulator. :rofl2:)

Dolphin likes intel cpus over anything else iirc.
I do have an Intel. Weird.

Memory has little to do with it if you have 8GB. Your CPU and possibly mobo is your bottleneck. Emulators can only use 1 core, I think dolphin can now use 2 but either way without a beefy processor for Wii games you will run into performance issues. Also your disk speed, if you have a 5200RPM HDD and slow bus speed on your mobo then it's GG.

I have an Intel Core i5-5200U Processor. 4 Cores, 2.20GHz each, according to Device Manager.

Change dolphin to only use 1 or 2 cores explicitly (google cpu affinity if you don't know it) and that could help. It could also be your video card, do you have an onboard or physical card?

I don't know the difference. :( But I have an NVIDIA GeForce 940M.

It's your processor speed that is the bottleneck. You'll need at least 3.0 ghz.

Onboard is directly burned into the motherboard, physical is connected via a PCIe or other port in the motherboard. It looks like that model comes onboard in a laptop, and physical for desktops. If you have a laptop you might be running into heat issues, or it could just be something is up with your OS install and you need to clean it up. Heat issues can be solved with a can of compressed air blown into the fan port (while it's off!!), but a more permanent resolution to heat issues is to open up the laptop and clean it out (also, while it is off!!).

I don't think a N64 is comparable to a Wii, the wii is underpowered as hell but it isn't that underpowered.

The N3DS (not the o3ds) might, might be able to run N64 games. Do not quote me on that, I don't know the lowest clock speed you need in order to emulate a N64 well (some phones do it quite well). I can't even imagine the o3ds doing n64 emulation considering it still has trouble with gba/snes games without dynarec.

Edit:
I noticed someone reference PSP n64 emulation. The PSP does have a higher clock speed than the N3ds (for whatever reason), but it isn't that comparable since it's a microprocessor(?) and the N3DS uses arm11. It's also multi-core, but I don't know if that makes a difference in emulation.
It doesn't, the PSP is 333 MHz max, the N3DS is 800 and something MHz, also the N3DS is quad core.

I think it's possible considering what was achieved on the PSP. Not for every N64 game of course, but I think Mario 64, for example, would run fine.

Yeah, awesome! I got Mario Sunshine working on my GBA yesterday, and am currently porting Splatoon and Undertale to 3DS. Great, huh?

cool. what else is cool about the emulator i modified is that it does support 3d on the o3ds. i set the emulator settings before i modded it to play in 3d. on pc it would b the usual red/cyan mix. in the 3ds it combines them and makes it look like a real 3ds game.
