Xbox 360 emulator "Xenia" gets a UWP port for Xbox Series S/X

The homebrew scene for the Xbox Series consoles is increasing bit by bit, and with it comes a whole array of emulators for the console, slowly becoming the preferred console for emulation of all current consoles of the generation.

For some time now, the Xbox Series consoles have been compatible with custom builds of RetroArch in UWP format, with a way to side load it be it through Dev Mode or through some more iffy method to load it as a normal app outside of Dev mode, effectively bringing almost all retro systems up to the PlayStation 2, Dreamcast and GC/Wii to the Series console. Alongside it, there has been a recent port in UWP format of the standalone Dolphin emulator, which brought the most recent and up-to-date features of Dolphin into the Series consoles compared to the outdated core that RetroArch used for Dolphin.

Now, yet another emulator joins the list of current available systems to play on the Series, with the addition of the Xbox 360 emulator, Xenia, getting a UWP port by SirMangler. The current backwards compatibility service that Xbox implemented some time ago for the Series S/X has started to announce the delisting of several games from the service. With this emulator, players which have the desire to play their beloved Xbox 360 classics that are getting delisted, or aren't currently available on the service, can now enjoy them on the Series via Xenia (given the game has the proper compatibility on the emulator).

People interested in the emulator can check out the latest UWP release of Xenia on SirMangler's GitHub.

I can't be the only one who thinks that microsoft would of banned xenia from being installed because it sort of ruins their business?

Has anyone tried it?

Would be impressed if this ran well considering I think the dev programs only have access to a small amount of the full system power

Yep i tried it on retail. Only a handful of games work with a few minor stutters. Most games ive tried boot back to the dashboard.

Got PURE and BULLY to work so far

Also the latest Xenia Canary build is currently broken so need to wait for a fix 👌

I briefly looked at MVG's vid about it..
I take it its performance is the same as in its pc counterpart? Or atleast close?
Xenia was improved in recent years, though i think it still has long ways to go..
Wonder what will MS will do about it? I mean they must do something, right? And will it affect any other emulators already on Xbox consoles..

I mean a good chunk of the library was already backwards compatible, but I guess why not?

Dev mode has access to one 1gb of ram with app or 4gb with game, so you should always change from app, which is default, to game. Xenia (not the canary one) is also on the Xbox store for retail mode. I do not know if there are restrictions in retail mode.

You’d be surprised. The Series S and X have proven to be absolute emulation powerhouses, particularly in dev mode, making it a selling point in and out of itself.

The restrictions apply across the UWP platform, regardless of whether you’re in dev or retail, at least as far as I understand.

    @Xdqwerty HM...

If the cat girl leaves, my kokoro dies a little.

If I piss off the cat grill friend, I get no food and he's likely to grill me.

There's just no winning here 😂

@RedColoredStars, Never heard of it. Any good?
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
You control a kitten. You fall out the window and have to make your way back home. Solve some light puzzles, do cat things like knock stuff over and steal things, trip people up when theyre walking, pounce on birds, complete goals/tasks etc. in the process of getting back to your home.

@SylverReZ It's short but adorable imo. Im a HUGE cat lover. Can be completed in a couple of hours if just going for the main goals. But can be stretched out a good deal by exploring and doing everything there is to do and see.

So a man goes to the doctor because his boner wont go down. As he is laying in the hospital bed, with his thing propped up in the air, a fly is flying around and landing on the tip and bothering him, so he calls in the nurse. The nurse comes in, swats at the fly but can't quite reach it, so she climbs his boner to get better aim. After a few tries of swatting and sliding back down, she says sorry I cant get it. He says keep going, a few more tries, and I can shoot it down.
