New report claims the Switch's successor will launch next year, with third-party developers in possession of dev kits

download (1).jpeg

The rumour mill continues around the successor to the Switch, but is this one the one? According to Video Games Chronicle, and corroborated by Eurogamer, Nintendo is likely to release its next-gen hardware in the second half of 2024. VGC's sources, which include "multiple people with knowledge of Nintendo's next-gen console plans", claim that the device will be useable in handheld mode and support physical cartridges like the Switch. However, backwards compatibility remains unclear.

The next-gen hardware will also apparently sport an LCD display, instead of an OLED one, in order to keep costs low while packing higher storage for higher fidelity games. Dev kits of the system are also with key partners, according to the report.

Of course, take this report with a grain of salt as these are unofficial news and rumours around a Switch Pro or Switch 2 have been around for a while. But eventually, we will get a successor to the Switch in one form or another; and whether it will replicate the latter's success remains to be seen.

Hope there will be an oled model.
Dont be tick,nintendo.
Chitemmurt!
If I were Nintendo I would try to get the Switch customers to buy this machine as an alternative to Switch so need to keep the price comparable. Of course if it were inferior then the deal won't fly. So LCD quality can't be too bad.

Nintendo consoles generally tend to see a successor after it's out six years, so it won't be surprising to hear Nintendo announcing it sooner or later.

Folks just got to keep expectations low.
Yes but it is different now after Nintendo learned a lesson from Wii U flopped and they don't want to have same mistake.

That’s the thing; I always see people dream about specific Nintendo games having the graphical headroom of other consoles. But with how dedicated they seem to ensure GameCube games are as buried as possible refusing to do any sort of VC support, they’re not gonna tread that path again. The GameCube was more powerful than the PS2 AND cheaper, but never surpassed it, but that has other factors. People who worked on the GC state that it never had that “thing” to truly set it apart.

And it’s kind of happening again with Xbox Series consoles; it’s technically more powerful than the PS5 (in some areas, at least), Quick Resume (for games that support it), a solid pool of back compat titles, Game Pass, and Development Mode for emulators & gamedev. But the PS5 has 3D Audio (though games seem to have amazing sound mixing even without it so it depends), the DualSense’s adaptive triggers & gyro, VR support, and DirectStorage before PC. Also more consistent releases from comoanies in Asia like Square Enix & Capcom (still, why did they decide to skip Xbox on the MMBN collection???)
Microsoft admit it lost this “console war”.

People may like comfort & making the stuff they currently do better, though they also want new experiences.
Quick resume on the new Switch for all my existing Switch games is enough for me to buy.

Just look at how well Apple did since Steve Jobs past away you know that playing it safe pays.

Keep the new one the best of what ever you have ever made is enough, no need to give more. Better save it for the next one so you can continue to make the best ever every year.

Pay more for less. 😂

I really wanna see how their iPhones will have USB-C and they fuck with the users. Probably requires some stupid proprietary USB-C cable to charge at fast speeds. Ha ha

THIS...if I can't transfer my existing games its a no deal and very bad decision making for Nintendo as I'm sure a lot of people will feel that way.
The saves is one of the treasure that Nintendo have and you can bet that they will guard it with all they have. There is no multiverse where Nintendo would throw it away.

The whole idea is always be able to give more than the last iPhone, so that means don't give too much.

Customers only cares about loosing something so you must make sure they don't. Moving to a competitor would mean loosing something. People care more about loosing than getting something they didn't have before.

People will choose to stay as long as what you have is not too bad compared to the competitor, it is seldom because you are kick ass good. Make it better than the last one is enough.

PS: I think the USB-C will be standard, no such thing as proprietary USB-C, it would be really a laughing stock if Apple were to do that, because customer is already loosing that lightning connector. ( Remember don't make customer loose anything? )

PS4 is already achievable and I'm sure Nintendo could manage this at 3hr battery charge.
PS4-level performance was achievable before the original Switch was even released. That’s not what determines whether a product is worth developing or not, there’s a lot of other factors that play into it.

that's it i'm out. i'm tired of these pricks making the same shit over and over. guarantee it won't be able to hold up against the ps5 and xbox YET AGAIN! hope it's hacked in a month with emulator shortly after. and with their track record with shitty security it probably will be

Funny how the switch has outsold both the ps5 and Xbox series systems with the Xbox series xs having over 21million, ps5 has just hit 40 million, but the switch has 126million units sold. So go ahead and tell me how it lost to either console

All the people who complain about Nintendo are still Nintendo customers after so many years of complaining so Nintendo knows as long as they don't screw up ( by changing what they were doing ) they will be fine.

I predict that at some point there will be an oled model.
^
I got a first gen switch (Christmas of launch). The subpar battery life/screen was kind of a turn off. Once the OLED model (refurbished) came out, I sold my old one for that. By then, the battery was more bearable and the screen quality was a major plus.
Wouldn't be surprised considering this is a hybrid console that they would offer an OLED revision or even a Switch Lite +

Of course, since this is Nintendo, all future consoles are subject to the same wonderfully weird handling of services, as well as all those AWESOME restrictions that nobody else has more of than Nintendo. Note the heavy sarcasm.

Them bringing back dual screens and taking it a step further by letting you play 3ds/ds games on it, that would be amazing.

Also, the Steam Deck exist and it is playing PS5 games, so it is not like it will be impossible for the next Switch.

I'm struggling to think which handheld, in the form factor of the Nintendo Switch, which is comparable to a PS4, qas available before the Switch launched?

I think the very fact we're talking about the Switch, proves there are many more things which determine a successful console.

The Wii was a couple of generations behind the PS3 and Xbox 360 in hardware (console).

only because sony fucked up and couldn't meet demand. everyone wanted a ps5 but couldn't get one for a whole year. if things would have been different the ps5 would have buried it from day one. also it was the ONLY HANDHELD available at that time. if steamdeck was out a lot sooner no one would even care about that dated android tablet with a nintendo skin that can't even play today's modern games at a stable rate

I wonder how popular the next console will be (especially on this site) when there is no hack or custom firmware. I'm feeling pessimistic about hitting the jackpot again like with the Switch.
