Team Xecuter reveal info on upcoming Switch modchip

SwitchTX.jpg

Just over a week ago, team Xecuter announced that they are working on a soon-to-be-revealed modchip for the Nintendo Switch. This was big news because modchip devices are usually used to circumvent anti-piracy measures on many digital platforms, but mainly gaming systems, and to see one already in the works for a machine that is only 10 months old is very rare.

Since then the team have been quiet, no one knows what the device will look like, how it will work, or when they can get their hands on one - but GBAtemp can exclusively reveal today that there will be BOTH a solder AND solderless option of team Xecuter's Nintendo Switch modchip.

Here is a direct quote from team Xecuter:

For now, I can tell you there is a solder and solderless version. We have quite a lot in the works, you will have more info soon.

The difference in pricing should be interesting in the two versions of the device, but at least you can now rest safely, knowing that the team will be providing options for whatever the Xecuter Switch modchip turns out to be.

Stay tuned to GBAtemp for more info in the upcoming weeks.

I think this is a great thing-better than a flashcart, though this is coming from a guy who bought an NDS flashcart and never uses it for anything but NTRBoot.

So who are the real wizards? Team Xecuter or the self-proclaimed "wizards" in the switchhax discord channels? I'm confused. Maybe they'll wave their wands and make magic soon or maybe they'll post another dumb cryptic tweet.
The softmodders. Hardware mods are cool, but I think that ColdbootHax via software is much more amazing.

From the (really uninformative, 2 sentence) article I just read on WiiBrew, that exploit happened while the system was running. This happens before the system boots (as shown by their Team Xecuter icon instead of the Nintendo icon) which means that it most likely happens in bootROM, which is unpatchable (the eFuses that do patch the bootROM have already been set).

It can be patched at the factory level. iPatches are likely to wipe this out once its REed.

I wonder if that solderless option is actually some kind of Sky3DS and not really a mod chip

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

probably that the so0lderless version will cost more

or lower the portability of tablet mode greatly

"factory level" I am pretty sure the post i responded to was referring to a software patch. could be wrong though

I don’t understand why people are so happy about solderless.
You gonna have to open up the console and know what the fuck you are doing regardless... soldering a little part shouldn’t add much difficulty to the process

You have to connect the solderless version to a particular “contact point”(for a lack of a better word) and either leave it as it is or use tape to fix it up.

My point is, either way you need to know what you are doing..
i have yet to see how putting one thing on top of another has the same amount of risk as melting metal to a $300 board.

I for example opened my 3ds up and changed the whole Mainboard to get down to 4.5 no soldering required. And I knew there were talks about hardmods, nand flashing ans so on. But I didn't want to solder something

As if opening up the Switch to get to the mother board is a PhD worthy task.
Opening a console up is not even difficult, you just need to know what you unscrew, where and put it back together in backwards order.

Much more painless than having to solder something to millimetric precision

I still have a solderless Xecuter 3 chip in my OG Xbox, i could go, pull it down from the loft and it would still work. It did just around a month ago as it goes. That box has been bumped and moved around shitloads of times, think i had to reseat the chip once right back not long after in stalled it waaaaaay back when.

One of these Badboys
This was the solderless solution, Held in place with a motherboard screw. That tiny wire poking out the left was the only fiddly bit about it (it had to go in a really small hole)

I also have one of these beauts on the front, complete modchip control all from the front panel and that screen was pure sex back in the day (it was entirely underused tho)

Basically what i am saying is Team Xecuter know their shit so dont judge before it announced properly.

Solderless? Nice to know that they want to make sure that anyone can use it. I'm shite when it comes to soldering. I know how to solder. My only problem is accuracy. >3>

With a Spring release date, TX needs to keep the hype up by continuously releasing info otherwise people are gonna forget all about this if a decent software solution is released first.

i'd rather them be patient and slow with their information. if they give it all up right now, then in 2 months, all will be forgotten unless they reveal how the exploit works.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze

same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in

    it's dumb

    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
