Steam now supports the Switch Pro controller

IMG_7778.PNG

Valve's PC platform, Steam, has now added support for the Nintendo Switch Pro controller. In the latest Steam client beta update, you can use your controller by turning on the option for it in the settings. You can then customize the button layout for specific games, save presets, and use the gyro function for certain games that support it.

Greetings from the Steam Controller team. We’re pleased to announce that the latest Steam Client Beta adds support for the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. We think it is a great device with a feature set that pairs nicely with your Steam catalog. The d-pad is ideal for fighting games and platformers and the gyro enhances aim in your action/FPS titles. If you’d like to test it out you will need to opt into the Steam Client Beta then follow the steps below. We hope you enjoy and, as always, we welcome your feedback.

I was already using my Switch Pro Controller with Steam just fine, I had to map it manually though which was a bit unintuitive.
But gyro support is nice, I guess.
Any word on whether rumble is supported? Since there doesn't seem to be any other way to get rumble working with a Pro Controller on PC. There's one driver that claims to do it, but it's in a very alpha state and I couldn't get it to work at all.

Neat. Joy-Con support shouldn’t be too hard for them to add next. In the meantime, vJoy and the Joy-Con driver do the trick or certain usb adapters if you don’t mind paying for it.

Wow, wasn't expecting that. That's actually really cool.

Makes me wonder if any PC Gamers are going to go to the trouble of getting a Switch controller to play some games.

Maybe cause pc doesn't know how to handle HD rumble compared to common rumble I guess. :P

I've had a switch for three days now. I've been playing my only game, odyssey, with the joy-cons, though I did buy a switch pro controller. I've only tested the dpad in the test menu after hearing that it was terrible. I may have the revised version since it feels fine and never misread any of my commands. though, I need an actual game to test. tropical freeze just may be that game. I've beaten the game countless times on the wii u with the wii u pro controller, so I'm pretty familiar with how the game should feel. ;)

I really like the Pro Controller, I didn't care much about controllers but since I bought it I must say that I really like how it's balanced and comfortable.

But this beta release note don't answers the most demanding question: Does the picture of the controller change based on the colour of the Pro Controller you use or stays it always a picture of the default colour scheme? :D
No in all seriousness, nice to finally see a Nintendo controller more actively supported on PC. It really was a mess with the WiiU Pro Controller, at least compared to the other modern controllers.
