The number of people who will actually go through the effort to use homebrew or pirate is nothing in proportion to the userbase. There's been studies on this kind of thing, it doesn't hurt anyone, and I'm fairly certain that game developers get paid wages regardless.

Because it's SUPER easy, and right now is the Switch's PRIME. Most sales are from launch to only a year or two from now. Those consoles took until nearly the end of their lifetimes to get cracked into the same way.

Not that easy, you still have to either make a jig, enter RCM mode, etc, to do it, not super user friendly, so... the console isn't going to falter. I wish people would stop believing that crap.

I like to think the same way, but consider how easy it is.

You just tell them to don't copy that floppy

Also, if you are 1 of those who 'homebrew old games', you're a part of the problem you're thinking of. As N has shown, million year old games can be sold a thousand times...to the same customers. Too many running around trying to play high and mighty just because a game or console is older. If you have PSPs and Wiis full of games you found on the net, YOU'RE A PART OF WHAT YOU CONSIDER A PROBLEM.

Man, if I actually gave a damn about buying the same old games ad infinitum, I'd be worried too.

In all honesty? Any moron can make a paperclip jig. Took all but 5 seconds. Then booting into RCM takes a small bit of practice. However, TX is offering a full solution, complete with Jig and Piracy.

I personally know at least 7-8 people with Switches that either don't have the skill to do 98% of the steps required to get homebrew working, or just plain aren't interested in messing around with their working console no matter how much it bleeds them dry. The rest will be banned in the first week for giving a friend a copy of their un-header-cleared cart dumps ^_^

We can tell they are worried and paying close attention. They really should be. Every console can EASILY run Homebrew applications and soon backups or a freeShop situation. Hell I used a paperclip to get into RCM. It's been happening since the Wii and shows no sign of stopping. I don't think Rei should release that XCI dumper/installer. It's a stupid slippery slope that could seriously harm Nintendo.

CONSIDER THIS
The Switch is currently in it's prime. The old consoles didn't get open piracy or real Homebrew development until well into their overall lifespan. The Switch is getting it NOW. Only 2 years in. Most sales will be made around this time and most switch owners will be looking into Homebrew if it's so widespread and so stupidly easy to pull off.
Uh, it's barely a year in.
No console ever suffered noticeably as a result of piracy. The DS did very well despite being hacked early, same for the Wii with modchips.

And people are going tits up over the potential of people pirating games that only account for <1% Switch users? Oh, the horror!

Meh. I'd be all for that, but I personally couldn't give a damn about Switch "backups", I'm more interest in the homebrew apps more than anything, like emulators. Still piracy with ROMs, but until Nintendo has a competent service to replace the VC with more then NES games, I couldn't give a damn. Maybe I'll do that instead, but only if this TX allows me to run emulators, Lakka, etc.

Nah! Nintendo doesn't care one bit! They'll just ban every unit hacked, period.
Edit: This might actually be good the sales!

Errr..... no!
I don't care. Are you worried with Nintendo? Buy all games you can while I play my "legitimatey bought"games. ;)

FYI: In 2017 Nintendo's net sales amounted to 4.37 billion U.S. dollars.:switch:

I'm sure 1 to 5% of sales doesn't hurt their revenue.

Nintendo has sold 10 million Switch consoles to players worldwide. - Dec 12, 2017

Now what percentage of those owners will be modding their switches? I bet not even close enough to bankrupt these devs or nintendo

I only emulate what I've bought on VC on older systems. (Meaning Wii/U). Just for that reason.
