So as an update, some interesting news!

Gen7 Engine will now support the PSP (and so the PSVita) console

unknown-22.png

Thanks to the help of the PSP Homebrew Community (https://discord.gg/bePrj9W), an update is coming soon to allow Gen7 developers to build their projects on the PSP platform, the first Sony and full handheld console being supported. That said, any PSP project can be ran on the Vita too so that's 2 platforms in one :)
(you can send me your project files manually meanwhile releasing the "official" support to get a PSP build)

Gen7's 3D Engine+Renderer is in development

Good news, the 3D implementation of Gen7 Engine is now in development, and it will allow to build full 3D games while using the visual programming workflow it originally allows.
This screen shows a sample scene under the 3 platforms that are Windows, PSP through PPSSPP and Wii through Dolphin using baked lightmaps and dynamic lighting, and compressed textures for the platforms that allow it; everything is hardware accelerated.

Open GitHub repository for bug and ideas reporting

I have opened a GitHub repository so everyone are able to add the bugs they encounter, or even ideas that gets directly synced with my Microsoft Azure DevOps project, system I use to handle development efficiently.
You can access it here: https://github.com/iyenal/Gen7-Engine-Bug-Reporting/

So I think it's enough for today, feel free to follow me on my GBAtemp for more blog entries focused on Gen7 Engine development in depth, and on that, keep care of you and your loved ones.

Damn, this looks cool, why isn't it taking of like a rocket? : /

Well, I don't know. I guess people prefer to code everything themselves and enjoy struggling with thousands of libraries xP
Jokes asides, I think that's because Gen7 stability isn't yet perfect which I now know that's important, and so many people couldn't get a full experience and speak about it.
However, like I always say it's still in active development and an engine currently in beta phase, if not alpha. That's one of the reasons I am rewriting a large part of it to make now stability its strength. But "moral" and *financial* support isn't what I expected to keep working on it frequently (well non-existent for the former), so progress is a lot slower for new releases and features.

ah, I see. that is very unfortunate. you can always do it like samsung and just skip 10 numbers every time, so we can have gen30. That is in hopes 2030 will not feature covid 29.
Well, I will think about that when I'll have finished more important features.

Happy new year from Gen7 Engine!

Who could have imagined last December all the events that happened that year, and the crises we will surely remember for a long time. Maybe the best gift for this year's end is actually... its end.
Though, not everything was negative. This year allowed a lot of us to get more free time, following the multiple lockdowns countries encountered to develop our projects, and many rose more than ever.

It was a challenging year, we can't deny that. But it has shown how important technologies are in today's society to keep contact with the people we love, to keep learning, to keep growing.
And we homebrew devs, hackers are part of that revolution, showing their real potential and the wonderful things we can do with it.

Finally, may 2021 continue on this road for all of us, hope things get better for everyone, and respect for the people that were in front of these crises, and were impacted by these. My warmest wishes and considerations for everyone :)

Have a great 2021, and take care!
Life is short.

Yup I do! It's taking more time than I expected, but that's mostly because I do way more tests and stability checks on development.
However, a large part of new stuff will be presented in the PSP Homebrew Developer Conference 2021:

Of course, anything that I'll present for Gen7 will apply for all the other platforms I support.

Hello. You don't know how amazed I am by this Engine. But there is always the problem that what is done with it on the Switch must be distributed for free because it is simply not legal to market your games outside the Eshop (And I do not think that Nintendo accepts games in its Eshop made on an Engine designed for Homebrew. Or if?). If the Nintendo Switch were more open, I would waste all my creativity on your tool. So maybe for those who want to do proof of concepts or homebrew games without it being an income base, this Engine is very useful.

Honestly I don't know anything about the legal details of it, but I think it's always possible to market the game outside of the eshop and to target it to an audience of homebrew users, perhaps accepting donations. As long as it doesn't use Nintendo's IPs, I doubt they'd do anything about it.

But it is legal to "obtain benefits" from it, which in the end would be to market on a system that has commercial protection.
