DOOM has been ported to the retro game console in Persona 5 Royal

DOOM is well-known for being ported to basically every device with some kind of input, and that list now includes the old retro game console in Persona 5 Royal. Modders KingJackSkellington and Xan1242 released the DOOMsona mod today, that lets you buy the shareware version of the original DOOM at the second-hand store in Yongen-Jaya. DOOM is fully playable and, like the other games Joker can play in his room, will grant the player a social stat upgrade when they're finished (in this case, his guts will increase) and prompt commentary from Morgana before and after playing.

The mod includes the WAD file for the shareware version of Doom, as well as for FreeDOOM and Chex® Quest, a promotional video game released by General Mills in the '90s based on Ultimate Doom. Upon completing the shareware DOOM, which only comes with the first episode, the player can purchase a full copy of Ultimate DOOM from the same store; however, since this game is still being sold commercially, the WAD file isn't included with the mod and the player must provide their own.

DOOMsona also supports any PWAD that is compatible with Chocolate DOOM, a source port of the original DOOM that aims for historical accuracy and adherence to the experience of playing DOOM as it originally released.

That looks like a Famiclone with a PAL SNES cart. Oddly specific.

The PAL SNES uses the same design as the Japanese SNES or Super Famicom. So it's a Famiclone with a Super Famicom cartridge, which makes a bit more sense :D
Although... PAL and NTSC-J Doom didn't come in a red cartridge, unlike NTSC-U.

No, the label/sticker is the PAL style.

How about an abacus? Has DOOM been ported to an abacus yet? hmmmm?

Kidding aside, this is impressive. Successfully emulating a game inside another game is very cool!

What if...? What if when you open the DOOM game on Persona 5 you could play ANOTHER game inside DOOM inside Persona 5! Boom! My head just exploded.

I was slightly irritated that I couldn't play DOOM in Persona 5 Royal.

Now I've gotta play Persona 5 Royal again just to play DOOM.

Playing a video game in a video game. We’ve come a long way, folks.
+Planet Harrier in Shenmue and I bet there was some game-within-a-game before that too.

also Doom & Doom II are playable on a PC in Doom Eternal, and the in-game passcode to unlock the computer
is cool because it's the name of the main character of the Doom novelizations which I've read every few years since I was 10 years old, for over 26 years. they go off the rails kind of like this post but they're cool.

Actually, I'm pretty much done listening to your babble. DOOM is a game that gets ported so many times and I won't deny that.

But this doesn't mean I enjoy it, not only because I'm bad at FPS games, but... ugh. I don't even wanna tell at this point.
The real question is who asked and who cares?

If your internet speeds are fast enough. Streaming 4k takes alot. I used to only have 20mb sec, and 4k struggled. Now I have 300mb sec and 4k plays fine.

I think Game streaming should work like this.... Local Hardware able the run the game fine, game engine and common assets stored locally, all FMV and music and textures could be streaming

Or free government supplied high speed internet be nice also. Like Obama care. Xdqwerty that's cool, its time consuming but rewarding once done or playable, to see what you've made from scratch. Animations take forever, but worth it.

    @BigOnYa,
and the visual aspect of the game is quite crude (the sprite that looks best is that of the protagonist just because he is a stickman with sunglasses)

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
There is a bullets behaviour you assign to your character, that makes the code easier, under "behaviours"
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
i meant that when the character is pointing to the right, the bullets spawn where they should, but when he is on the right, they move to the right but the spawn point is incorrect
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Itch.io has lots of free assets also. Under the bullets behavior tab, there is a "rotate bullets" option, can try that. Or in the code can try
    - fire bullet Player.X(PlayerDirection)

That's cool tho, I'm proud of you going back to it, not giving up. It is difficult at first to learn, but fun once you get the hang of it. I think I've watched every tutorial video there is, but I still struggle sometimes to get stuff to work right. But gotta keep trying dif things, and eventually you will get it right.
