I'm guessing this next game will be Gloria Union, and they're starting with G again just to fuck with Growlanser fans. That, or they're actually listening to the amount of feedback they got about Gungnir vs Growlanser IV and are trying to get that localized, but I'd guess the former.

Another "G" game? SO EXCITING. I don't like guessing games.

Too bad I'm not into SRPG's. This won't get me to buy another PSP anytime soon.

Could they, at the very least, make a name a bit easier on the tongue? "Gungir" just does not out come naturally...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gungnir

The fact that it's named from Norse mythology does not change the fact that "Gungnir" is a difficult word to pronounce in modern English; I'm sure there are many other fitting allusions that could be used that aren't so straining.

Or hey, here's another idea: Just say it's a sequel to Odin Sphere and call it "Odin Spear". Bam, problem solved

I'm sorry, but that idea of yours just sounds stupid (the game has no relation to Odin Sphere). They can name it whatever they want and Gungnir is a more original title name. It's not like this was even developed specifically for the modern English speaking audience.

It's not that hard..."Gu(as in Gun)-ung(like tongue)-nur(nursery)"

A) Yes, because my last comment was completely serious.
B) Of course they can name their game whatever they want; that doesn't make it immune to criticism.
C) How is lifting the name from Norse Mythology original? And even if it was original, that doesn't automatically make it good.
D) The word is in Old Norse, so it probably isn't going to be any easier to a native speaker in Japan.

And yeah, "Gung-ner" is how I read the word. It doesn't come out too naturally, which can be a problem when it comes time for them to advertise the game. Beyond that, there are some people who might be turned away from any game where they have difficulty pronouncing the title. (Silly reason? Absolutely, but I guarantee you it happens.)

If I were to write this in a non-phonological manner then I'd say Gu as in "goo" but with a shorter "u", a sole "n" like in "north", a sole "g" like in "great", and "nir" like "near" with the diphtong "ie" replaced with a short "i".

But then again, it's open for interpretation. :P
