Elon Musk buys out Twitter for $44 billion, plans to take company private

asdasddsadadas.png

We've long become used to gaming industry buyouts; between Microsoft and Sony's recent acquisitions, and future rumors, it's of little surprise to see a smaller studio scooped up by an infinitely larger one. But over in the tech world, there's been a buyout a little weirder than usual; on Monday, Twitter was bought by the ever-eccentric world's richest man, Elon Musk. The cost of the deal totals a staggering $44 billion--$54.20 per share of stock. Following this, Musk plans to make Twitter a privately-owned company, and the full acquisition is set to take place later in 2022.

In regards to the buyout, Elon Musk stressed that he wants to improve Twitter by adding new features, making the site's algorithms open source, and focusing on "free speech", claiming that the company has a lot of potential. Employees of Twitter expressed frustration at the lack of transparency from the higher-ups within the company about the buyout, and nervousness as they were unsure what would happen to their jobs, as Musk plans to make drastic changes in the future.

"Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated," said Mr. Musk. "I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans. Twitter has tremendous potential – I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it."

First thing I’m going to do with the edit button is post “respond if you like ice cream and puppies” and after a bunch of people respond I’ll edit it to say “respond if you like kicking babies and eating poop”.

The utter cesspool that is Twitter is now owned by the biggest scumbag on Earth.

How appropriate.
What, even scummier than a South American drug lord that's executed people, their families and raped small children? No I don't think so. Basically what is scummy is calling someone names that you don't know, have never met and no information about other than they are rich and successful and can afford to spend billions on frivolous things. There's plenty scummy people out there, but Elon Musk isn't one of them.

There is a picture of him floating around out there that's on that same level of cringe. He's done everything he can to try to have it removed from the internet. Same with the picture that shows him balding before he got his hair plugs.

In the modern interpretation they're assumed to have been loan sharks of sorts. In any case, the bible is very clear on this topic, to the extent that it repeats the same thing in different ways throughout. "The meek shall inherit the Earth."
Loan sharks and/or usury are different from money changing. "Modern interpretation"? What does that even mean? It took place a long time ago. Stocks, money exchange, investments on finance are more akin to "money changing" than loans. There are plenty of writings about lending and borrowing which suggests that the nomenclature was already established to differentiate between loans and money changing.

Besides this, it isn't entirely certain, but the specific context of the flipping of tables might be due to it taking place at a place of reverence, advertised, to be for "god".

About your reference to "the meek shall inherit the Earth". Meek might just be a reductionist take on words closer to "humble" and "prudent", and isn't directly related to the prior scenario. Rome chose what to include into "the Bible" and can only be as consistent as life is.

@assassinz . Besides, you could also interpret that statement to mean he'll allow unlimited harassment toward those who disagree with him politically.
Isn't that what the block button is for? I really wouldn't give a shit if someone harassed me online, as I'd just tell them to fuck off and block them.

Fair enough.

Nah the New Testament is very hippie/socialist friendly in general. A lot of modern conservatives prefer the Old Testament but wouldn't admit to it openly.

By harassment I'm including death threats, doxxing, and so forth. There's always gotta be a line when it comes to content moderation, and a "certain crowd" is always gonna cross that line more frequently than other people.

you know damn well he means the unwarranted censorship based on politics views or agendas... idk why ppl like you always go straight to the worst possible outcome for 0 reason.. if you watched any of his interviews about it you'd realize this, but no you just complain on the internet while blissfully ignorant to current situation.

Do you really think a man who just spent 45billion with clear intentions of making a profit would jeopardize his asset by letting twitter turn into 4chan circa 2006?! How tf does that make sense in that head of yours? please explain.

Anything else and he can't give the Trumpettes the "freeze peach" paradise they're looking for. So a better question would be: why would he jeopardize his good will with the only people that like him, and spend $45 billion just to keep Twitter's rules more or less the same?
