All 360's are hackable, exception of Xenon and Winchester (Xenon being shite, not worth the time nor money and Winchester being actually unhackable.
It doesn't really matter which one you pick altho preferences would go to Slims for their build quality, Phatties are simply more unreliable.

I'd say get a Slim, crack it open and identify the motherboard.
After that, you can make your selection of chips.

If you want a simple install, I'd say grab a Glossy Slim 360, they should all have Trinity motherboards which are fairly simple to solder chips in.
Upside is that you only need a glitch chip (CR3 XL/CR4 XL or AceV3) and the TX DemoN.
I'd go for a full TX setup, their hardware is superb.
I'm running a first gen coolrunner on RGH1 in me Falcon, instaboot to 1 glitch cycle on nowadays shitty wiring routes ;p

I have recently acquired at what looks to be a PHAT console and today, I will be spending some time following the instructions of the first thread.

My only prior experience with modding consoles is soft-modding Nintendo Wii's to play games from USB hard drive.

I also want to be able to do the same for the XBox 360 - that's the goal and I would be requesting guidance here once I have followed the first few steps of the first post in this thread.

If you want to play backups via USB then Xkey is the way to go.
If you don't care about Live, RGH.

Other then that, flashing the drive allows for burnt DVDs and that's kinda it when it comes to hacking.

Thanks.. from what I read, USB backups can be played using both Xkey or RGH, correct?

I am having a very hard time finding Xkeys for sale online..

USB on RGH, yeh it works but upgrading the internal HDD is easier ;p

I'd advise against RGH, Xenons aren't great with boot times not to mention those things are ticking time bombs for RROD.

I think as long as the inside stays clean they are pretty good, no? I agree slims are better but I like my skinny girls but o wouldn’t pass up on a phattie. [emoji6] I’ve had mine since new and still going strong.

Hi @DinohScene, thanks for the thread!

I have an X360 with the manufacture date of 2011-07-11. According to what I have been reading I believe it might be a Trinity model. For longevity sake I wish to RGH my X360 but after reading how to for hows there is a plethora of options, chips and methods, some new and some outdated. I have never soldered anything much since school but I am fairly confident that I could do it or at least try. Since I do not own any of the kit, no wires, soldier, iron or chips I will have to make some purchases, and for that I want to be sure of what I need as I do not want to get it wrong and/or waste money.

Please could you let me know all the things Ill need and the best method in 2020. I am in the UK and will probably buy things from Ebay UK.

I know the word "best" is subjective, so for me having something resilient and stable is more important than price.

Another question is, when I purchased this X360 long ago it already had a flashed drive. However I do not have the keys for the DVD drive or whatever other keys I should have, the seller did not provide any. Will this be an issue? When I RGH one of my goals is to rip my retail games onto the HDD so that I do not use the disks.

Hmm, what's your dash version?

If you want to keep on using XBLive on the console then I'd suggest getting a Xkey for it.
It's a little device that allows backups to be played from external devices.
Only downside is that you're limited to games that have been released on disc.

RGH has the advantage of ripping discs to the console's HDD.
Playback of Arcade, Indie and DLC also becomes possible.

To answer your questions:

The DVD is already flashed, I believe with iXtreme LT+ 3.0 but I do not have any keys. I know however that burnt games work on it.
The dash is: 2.0.17526.0 (I have not powered it on for a while as I have another X360 that I use)

I would definitely like to do an RGH for two reasons:

1. I do not ever play online, I do get achievements but that is all, I am not too worried about those. The 360 live service is almost dead or will die soon.
2. XKey is expensive and not readily available in the UK.

Ideally, an RGH2 (or SRGH? I am confused with these two) + dual NAND solution would be perfect, but first I need to know how to do it and what I need to get started.

Depends on what chip you want tbf, S-RGH is just a speedup, you might win 1 sec of boot time with it on a Trinity.
I'd say get a Ace V3 and solder that in the console.

You're going to need a NAND-X or JR Programmer v2 to dump the NAND of the console.
Dual NAND.. I'd get a TX DemoN and a Coolrunner 4.

Yeh, that's the basic setup.

60/40 lead/tin PCB solder, idk if they still sell it, otherwise 99/1 tin/copper might do the trick.
Anything that says PCB or circuit boards.

Nah, Ace v3 is the best.

There is lead free ones (Is that better?)
What is the correct SWG? There is 18-25 available.
There there is something called grade, like 2%
One even says pre-fluxed core.

Leaded solder is the best kind.
Other ones work as well.

Use flux even if it has a rosin core.

@DinohScene Thanks for everything! I ordered the stuff, cost me around £80 which is a lot but many of the things will be useful for other projects.

I almost forgot, but about the flashed drive, would it adversely affect the RGH in any way?
