Perfect Dark Decomp almost finished, currently at 97%

The amount of decompiled games has seen a considerable increase during the last 5 years.
A lot of N64 games have been the main focus of such decompilation projects, since the console's many games were originally coded in C/C++.

One of the many projects currently being decompiled from the N64 console is none other than one of Rare's top games for it, Perfect Dark.
The current status of the decompilation project is nearing its completion, with both the NTSC 1.0 and NTSC Final versions of the game currently sitting at 97% completion.

The other versions of the game are not far off, either.
The PAL and Japanese versions are sitting at 96% and 95%, respectively. Even the Beta versions of the game are getting a decompilation as well, with both the NTSC and PAL Betas sitting at 94% and 96%, respectively. With all the work being done, the completion and possibility of a PC port (and other devices) is coming closer and closer to being a near-future reality.

There's a lot more N64 games being decompiled at the moment, with the most recent one being Ocarina of Time, which has been seeing ports to many devices and consoles thanks to the combined effort of the community, with Majora's Mask being another one that's closing up above 70% completion. If you want to take a peek at other decompilation projects currently being worked on, you can visit the N64Decomp community at GitHub, while the Zelda titles decompilations are currently hosted at Zelda Reverse Engineering Team's page.

Can't wait. Also can't wait for the "should we use the PAL or NTSC version" discussions (PAL actually having a good case for being the one to look at), though finding cheese might be another.

In all seriousness though I still maintain Perfect Dark has lessons to teach games of today -- 4 player local multiplayer, bots of a variety of AI types, many maps, weapons selections... what it was to be a caveman.

I do like how these decomps not only breathe new life into the original games by enhancing them for modern displays and with great quality of life improvements, but also how they can breathe new life into older systems. The Vita and the Wii U specifically live on strong in the homebrew scene, thanks in no small part to such decompilations.

Oh uh should have said "I'm looking forward in Goldeneye's decomp" lol
Sorry  Getting my wires crossed up quite often today
I remember buying GE and seeing the four bonds in the images on the packaging…. We hammered it day in day out and never figured it out. We were gutted to find out they weren’t accessible..

PD on the other hand had PERFECT HEAD, so I foresee us being able to put our own… I mean: MEME FACES on our character 😂

oh yeah it's skin color for difficulty in south park

is it, by that logic, blackface to play on the hardest difficulty if you're white?

guys, this sounds unhinged, but someone (i forgot who) saying they'd want to make their left 4 dead team wario, samus, captain falcon and nester gave me the idea for a quick round of fuck marry kill/bed wed behead

    wario, samus, captain falcon
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
i gotta say fuck captain falcon, because he's hot (no homo), marry samus, because she seems like good wife (or as BigOnYa says, wifey) material, and kill wario, because he can't die, so killing him won't really kill him

My state has put a heavy tax on vape juice, taxing any juice with nicotine by the weight/oz. So to get around the bs, my local vape store only sells 0 nicotine vape juices, then they also sell straight nicotine in tiny bottles, and you mix it yourself to your 0% juice, lol
