Contender for the very last released Wii game?

Rodea the Sky Soldier, the NiGHTS into Dreams spiritual successor developed by its same director Yuji Naka, was finished back in 2012 for the Wii, and said the release was now up to the publisher Kadokawa Games, not Prope (his studio).
It has the same original concept as the motion-controlled prototype for the cancelled NiGHTS DreamCast sequel (Sega cancelled lots of Yuji Naka titles, including a touch-controlled 3D platformer for arcades, and generally everything that was not Sonic).

Kadokawa was developing their own 3DS version with similar production values than the Wii version, as a tie-in to the Wii version. It was finished in late 2013.
However by that time, Kadokawa was burned out by their 2011 release Earth Seeker (by ex-Capcom staff) bombing hard in Japan. Didn't help that Xseed, which was once interested in localizing it alongside Rodea, passed it over.
Hence why the Wii version was sort of phased out, and a Wii U version (not a simple port?) was developed.

It seems they're now including the Wii copies they already printed as first-print Wii U version copy bonuses. Something similar was done before by Level-5 with surplus unsold Japanese books from the DS version of Ni no Kuni, bundled with first-print PS3 version copies.

The game is set for release in Spring 2015, Japan-only, for all versions. This includes the Wii U version (not at 85% development), the Wii version as limited edition bonuses (already finished), and the 3DS version (already finished).

One thing is for sure, it's set to be among the rarest Wii games.
Maybe not the rarest, since there's "Sukeban Shachou Rena" (Delinquant CEO Rena, a cat) which sold 100 copies in its first week.

According to the magazine report, Rodea the Sky Soldier was originally in development for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii, but it will now release for Wii U and 3DS. There was also an original Wii version of the game, which was completed back in 2011, but never released. Since then, they began new developments for a Wii U version of the game.

The Wii version of Rodea the Sky Soldier that never released will also be included in first-print copy of Rodea the Sky Soldier for Wii U when it releases in Spring 2015 in Japan.

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

    I dread the price point.

    To me that seems reasonable.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150

Yeah it's all choice and that's a good thing :)
