After teasing a first-look at Sonic Frontiers, IGN has revealed the world premiere gameplay showcase for the game. The 7-minute video sees Sonic traveling through an open world, sparsely decorated with things you'd expect to see in a Sonic game: rings, springs, and rails. There's a large tower ala typical other open world games, that Sonic can climb to the top of. There are puzzles to solve that can unlock new areas, as well. Sonic Frontiers will be out before the end of the year, with more gameplay scheduled to be shown next week.

Reminds me of the hidden test stages that were in SA1 and SA2.

If the debut video for this game was performed on a test stage then Sega massively stepped on the ball here.

Looks so clunky and empty. Haven't been a fan of Sonic games since the Gamecube to be honest so this style is not for me but I'm sure fans of the modern games will like this more than me.

Long time Sonic fan here, I go all the way back to the 90s (I'm old ). I really don't think this gameplay style fits Sonic games... For these games I rather play Zelda, etc. I don't know, we will see but I'm a very cautiously optimistic about this one. One thing I'll say is I love his model in the game.

The world looks like a retarded minecraft creative server with crap floating everywhere.

I've never seen such a dull trailer in my life. Sonic absolutely does not work in open world and it's like this was a showcase for why. The entire point of sonic is that it's very nonstop. This game trailer was nothing but downtime.

I assume that isn't even Sonic the Hedgehog, looks to be his ancient cousin Barely-A-Jog the hedgehog.

because they want to show specific things??? this is a gameplay trailer, its doesn't HAVE to be in the main world, and they can change plenty in 6 months, this could be an older build.

The game needs to be close to finished by now, and the last couple of months are for fixing bugs and crashes mostly, not for making worldbuilding or radical changes, or else they wont have time to fix the bugs before release.

im not saying they will, and not saying it wont be bad, just saying they can change things drastically if they really tried, its not impossible for many changes to be made in a short amount of time, and people that are trying to rush and get gameplay out would choose a beta build, im not saying they definitely used a beta build, just that its possible.

well i like it. Sonic has always been about meandering about and such. Where it would get cool is if they have a Tails copter flying around and fighting those boss ships but that would be something that's not this.

It makes sense if you look at it like this, all those stupid boost pads and loops and stuff are always there but sonic only needs to go through them once a game. this shows you the dull reality of Green Hill Zone when you have nothing to do at all. No timers no bad guys justs boosters and loops. And quite honestly i dont even recall seeing any loops in this video just him climbing a tower.
