Team Xecuter reveal info on upcoming Switch modchip

SwitchTX.jpg

Just over a week ago, team Xecuter announced that they are working on a soon-to-be-revealed modchip for the Nintendo Switch. This was big news because modchip devices are usually used to circumvent anti-piracy measures on many digital platforms, but mainly gaming systems, and to see one already in the works for a machine that is only 10 months old is very rare.

Since then the team have been quiet, no one knows what the device will look like, how it will work, or when they can get their hands on one - but GBAtemp can exclusively reveal today that there will be BOTH a solder AND solderless option of team Xecuter's Nintendo Switch modchip.

Here is a direct quote from team Xecuter:

For now, I can tell you there is a solder and solderless version. We have quite a lot in the works, you will have more info soon.

The difference in pricing should be interesting in the two versions of the device, but at least you can now rest safely, knowing that the team will be providing options for whatever the Xecuter Switch modchip turns out to be.

Stay tuned to GBAtemp for more info in the upcoming weeks.

there would be a pretty serious lag time between a release and a fix. If/when it's fixed on a HW revision, stroll out and by some older consoles and life's good. Assuming there's no soft exploit released by then..
Yeah I guess this is what happens when there's tons of early interest in a device, but Nintendo is pretty fuckered on this one. Got a hardmod coming out, tons of people working on softmods, and an emulator in the works already.

I'd quote just 'fuckered' but yes. It appears they fuckered up :')

Everything gets hacked, and now all the current gen consoles are hacked. Well, XB1 supports UWP and doesn't have any notable exclusives, so good enough. PS4 is supposedly exploitable at least to 4.55.

If its a glitch type device exploiting something in the bootrom then Nintendo will correct the problem for future switch consoles. There will most likely be about 12 million vulnerable switches.... The value of those is gonna skyrocket. The team says its future proof but thats not so. There is nothing stopping Nintendo from fixing the hardware problem for newer manufactured switches. So only the 12 million or so switches will be "future proof" the rest of the 70 million will be fixed. thats not what i call future proof.
Better buy a switch now before the vulnerable ones are gone.......
Are you serious?? Only about 1% of consoles are ever hacked for piracy. That means, of the 12 million already sold, there will be about 120,000 of those hacked. The other 11.9 million consoles will be owned AND sold by people who don't have a clue on what hacking is. This also means that only a very small percentage of people will even be buying used switches to exploit a hardware flaw in these 12 million units. The supply and demand dynamics will hardly change. Even if it's only the first 12 million units that can use xecuter's mod, there will be no shortage of these units available for anybody that wants one. So don't get too excited about any sky rocketing prices for that extra switch you bought and kept on a low firmware. Now, if it was the exploitation of a lower firmware, then this would bode well for prices of those units to increase given that most of the millions of consoles that Nintendo has sold to date are likely already updated to the latest firmware. Anyway, sorry to rain on your parade.

(note: haven't read all 12 pages...please forgive me if I missed something)

So, erm...won't "solderless" mean that the modchip will be placed in the USB outlet somehow...where it'll get lost or broken pretty much the first time the owner carelessly puts his/her switch in a travel bag?

Solderless means solderless. That's all we know so far. But it will most probably be internal.

Thanks a lot, captain Obvious. I had no idea that solderless meant solderless! Your insight into these technical matters amazes the living bejebus out of me!:bow::bow:

On a more serious note: it wasn't so much an actual question as a speculation.
It could be something like wiikey Fusion -not an usb stick.
Might as well be a clip between the emmc (its pluggable)

Well the fact that your talking about it getting lost and connecting to the USB 'outlet' means you clearly do have NFI what it means. You think the solderless solution is just going to be flapping in the wind, but the solder solution will be internal? You're speculation and lack of technical knowledge amazes the bejebus out of me.

I got a solderless ps2 chip a long time ago, I pressed it on carefully and evenly and it bent the s*it out of the chip legs, making the console useless. I had to send the chip back for a partial refund and hand repair the chip legs... not a big fan of solderless since then.

Just like back in the day for the Nintendo Wii, solder Version or one already done. I went with the one already done and it was a simple open of the unit and clip on. I will 100% go for the one that does not require a solder iron!

they don't provide any warranty with any of their products, this will be no diff. if you get a dud it's your fault, not theirs. I've dealt with tx a lot in the past and every issue is user error, even if it's a bad chip. ask @vb_encryption_vb, he'll tell you the same shit.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

their glitch chips for the 360 ran around $20. they needed a programmer that would set you back between $20-30 but it was a one time thing. it also wasnt just for the glitch chip, you could use it to dump the nand too.

Flashers were closer to $60-80 when first released. Also, they will have the only solution at first so they will capitalize off the market, I mean, shit I would too if it was me. Remember when they first launched on the OG Xbox, a modchip was nearly 100$ once shipping was paid.

But yes, tx warranty is shit. They will put the blame on the installer no matter what.

Just stating facts lad, modchip shouldn't be necessary.

Consoles shouldn't be necessary.
Lemonade shouldn't be necessary.
Internet shouldn't be necessary.
Posting on forums that were more or less born from a homebrew/modchip community shouldn't be necessary.

Yet you are here, in a thread with the main topic of homebrew/modchip, telling us that modchips shouldn't be necessary.
