The Nintendo Switch 2 has been delayed to 2025, according to reports

switch-2.jpg

The Nintendo Switch has had a dominant life as a hybrid console-handheld, enjoying success since its launch in 2017. However, late last year heard some rumblings that Nintendo was preparing to move onward to a successor to the Nintendo Switch. According to Video Games Chronicle, Eurogamer, and other insider sources, development kits for a "Switch 2" had already been sent out to third-party devs, and rumors were claiming that the system would launch sometime in 2024.

Now, things have changed. While Nintendo was planning to launch the Switch 2 around late 2024, those same insider sources claim that due to some internal delays, the next-gen Nintendo console is targeting a Q1 2025 launch--similar to the original Switch, which launched in March 2017. VGC's sources state that the Switch 2 still plans on being a hybrid system, offering portable functionality, while Eurogamer corroborates VGC's statements, while additionally adding that the reasoning is so that the Switch 2 features as many launch titles as possible.

Called it.

If it was launched in December this year it would hurt game sales for the Switch this year cause people would be savinh money for the new Nintendo thing.

Also if it was launched this year it would have liked... 3 games at most?
How can it hurt game sales if the new system is backward compatible? Both your points is BS.

How can it be delayed when it hasn't been announced in the first place?

The whole Switch Pro/2 existence has been nothing but rumour, yet there are constant clickbait news articles/videos about it.
The same thing happened to GTA VI when rumors started spreading online about its release many years ago even before development. Yet, we now have an official trailer but not a full release date.

Honestly I just find it kinda funny that people are still so invested in new stuff when there’s a plethora of “old” games even on just the Switch they haven’t played yet. Just the way it goes though, something about monkey brain enjoys shiny new (even if neither shiny nor new, but we’re just told it is).

Not to mention the fact that Nintendo won’t even make a home console version despite it LITERALLY just being a normal Switch + overclocks + a suitable heatsink. Which means that piracy is the de-facto solution to having 1080p+ 60fps gameplay. And the Steam Deck has a (mostly) comparable quality to the Switch, which hurts it out from a mobile perspective too.

Nintendo won’t innovate though, they learned the hard way that innovation doesn’t pay thanks to how poorly they managed developers on the Wii U.

they are probably waiting for some shitty mobile tech to come down in price so they can buy that as cheap as possible, cram it into the same design with the same garbage joycons and have it be slightly more powerful than the switch is now than shut down the switch online and make you rebuy all the games all over again at FULL PRICE just like they did with the wiiu

You have "innovation" wrong. It refers to bringing something new that is markettable / bankable. The Switch was a better innovation than facebook's and apple's VR/AR headsets for instance. There is no question these headsets had required more R&D and brought better leaps in technology, but in the end, innovation wise, it's a different story.

For a major product release to be delayed this substantially so late, it was probably due to either that hacking card being available (which would indicate they either had retrocompatibility in mind or at least were planning on reusing the same card storage format and their new hardware isn't currently capable of differenciating it from a genuine one) or they have had a major quaility consistency hiccup while going into (pre)mass production.

Ditch Nvidia and go with AMD I say.
That would be the smart move. Nvidia is all-in on AI these days, they barely care about gaming in general, let alone producing new mobile GPUs. Any custom solution would surely force a greater price markup than Nintendo would be comfortable with.

It really took seven years of Switch 2 predictions for them to figure out they'd have better odds of being correct by predicting the Switch 2 won't release this year.
