Respectfully, I'd argue that the prevelance here is because of how characteristically intense Trump supporters tend to be. Yes, every political candidate will have the nut jobs who scream in your face, but Trump has been the center of so much controversy that his supporters are more polarized than most.

Not sure how old you are, but I'm unfortunately o.a.f. And I saw people having effectively a religious experience wrt: Obama in 2008.
