Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Kicks it up a Notch with Gears of War and Shadow Complex

yANjKOx.png

As Microsoft announced during the last E3, they are in the process of making the Xbox One console compatible with 360 games. This was a process that they initially thought was impossible, or at least unlikely. However, since the announcement around two dozen 360 games are available to Xbox Preview users.

Many of the available games aren’t ones that will blow your mind although it does include the blockbuster title Mass Effect as well as the classic Rare games Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie. All three of those games, and in fact most compatible games, are available on other consoles. This makes the backwards compatibility less impressive than first implied.

That being said, today Microsoft is taking it to the next level by adding another major Microsoft exclusive title to the mix, Gears of War. They are adding the Xbox Live arcade game Shadow Complex as well.

In addition to those games, today Microsoft announced that they have plans to bring the entire Gears of War franchise to the Xbox One for free backwards compatibility as long as you play the upcoming Gears of War: Ultimate Edition before the end of the year. This includes:
  • Gears of War
  • Gears of War 2
  • Gears of War 3
  • Gears of War Judgement
Microsoft plans on ultimately making hundreds of 360 games backwards compatible in the future and it seems like they are finally starting to show that it is an actual possibility.

Then it's down to the system that runs it, my friend loves Xenoverse and he's never noticed either of those things.

I'm no 'PC master race' ass, but there is no part of gaming where a console is better than a PC - unless we're talking exclusives, then the PC still wins for me.
I would agree with you last decade.

A lot of people reported energy beam related issues, I think it might be a Nvidia thing. The popular fix for bugs was to set the game to 30 FPS. Noone seemed bothered by that despite going on about PC version having 60FPS.

As a person who owns an Xbox one, this is kind of a double edged sword. If your internet goes out you won't be able to get the patch for x game. Any achievements made, you don't get to see them until you go back online and the local app on the XBone has limited space for them. Also, local games saves are temporary until you go back online and they are then imported to the cloud. So while the BC is good for the One, you still have to have internet for the most part. I liked it at first, but I think I will stick with my 360 for those games.

In that case you go on ahead and stand in the misguided mob, for all you're praising is a bunch of Mario games. First-party is all fun and dandy, but you're missing out on the majority of top AAA games this generation, much like Wii owners missed out on the majority of games last generation. Want to know some "actual games" that are on the Xbox One? How about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Evolve, Titanfall, Dying Light, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Batman: Arkham Knight, Mortal Kombat X, Far Cy 4 or Destiny? Enjoy your first-party CPR, enjoy it while it lasts, because it won't last forever.

It's been lasting for the past few decades, and Nintendo has a new console right on the horizon... I think we're still good for first party titles.
Also, I'm a Wii/Wii U owner, and I didn't miss out on any major AAA releases, since I played 'em all on my PC. See, if you own a decent PC to play multi-plays, then it just comes down to exclusives. Imo, the Wii/Wii U had better exclusives, but that's just me. Others may think differently.

That's a very big $1000 "if". What you fail to grasp is that you don't have to pick between multiplats and exclusives - you can have both in one convenient package so that you don't have to pump money into two different, incompatible ecosystems. As for whose exclusives are better, that's a matter of taste, not objective fact. As for missing out on AAA games, I'm pretty sure you did since not all land on PC's anyways - most Japanese productions don't, for instance.

With a PC, you still have multiplats and the biggest exclusive library of any system ever. It even has exclusive genres. It's got everything in one convenient package as well - not to mention it runs full desktop programs and whatnot. And as for cost, there are serviceable $400 gaming PCs that play well.
And yeah, console exclusives are a matter of taste. Not everyone likes Nintendo first-party titles.

Going back to your main topic, if the NX does well, it will start receiving multiplats as well. Tbh, every current-gen console (and PCs) has everything in one package except for the Wii U, which makes it's cut off of exclusives. It's kind of a given with us Nintendo fans. There's a somewhat funny video outline our predicament, haha:
