Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive gets rated for a PC release

sunset_overdrive.jpg

When it comes to the Xbox One, there's not many games available on the system that you can't get anywhere else, partly due to Microsoft's Play Anywhere initiative, which mandates that all first party Xbox games will now release on both PC and Xbox One concurrently. Before that policy was put in place, there was a small set of games that still were true Xbox One exclusives, consisting of Halo 5 and MCC, and Sunset Overdrive. The latter of which was created by Insomniac Games (known for making Spyro, Ratchet & Clank, Spider-Man 2018, and more) and released in 2014. However, we might see Sunset Overdrive make its way to another platform, thanks to a sudden appearance of the game on the ESRB's website, listing it for a Windows/PC release. This also follows a Korean Ratings Board leak we saw earlier this summer, as well, hinting at the possibility of it indeed being freed from its Xbox One exclusivity. No official announcement has been made yet, but with two different sources showing that Insomniac Games has filed specifically to get a rating for a PC release, an announcement is almost imminent.

Sunset Overdrive

Platform: Windows PC
Rating Category:
Content Descriptors: Blood and Gore, Drug Reference, Sexual Themes, Strong Language, Violence
Rating Summary: This is a third-person shooter in which players assume the role of a young survivor battling through a mutant apocalypse. As players traverse the open-world of Sunset City, they use assault rifles and fantastical weapons (e.g., grenade launchers that shoot teddy-bear bombs, guns that shoot fireworks) to kill mutant creatures, robots, and occasional human enemies. Combat is highlighted by frequent explosions, screams of pain, and gunfire. Some explosives cause enemies to be dismembered, leaving limbs around the environment; one cutscene briefly depicts a character's head cut off by a mutant. During the course of the game, characters and environmental elements reference sexual behavior or humor (e.g., “Oh, such a bold statement! It says, 'I am a prostitute!'” and “How hard was it to make a porn flip book?” ); a radio ad contains a running joke about a sex burger (e.g., “It's so good you won't be able to contain your urges to rub it all over your Sex…Burger”). The dialogue contains a handful of drug references (e.g., “You guys have been eating weed” and “Oh, when I get back with your drugs, we'll discuss my offense at your assumption that I would know where to find drugs”). The words “f**k” and “sh*t” also appear in dialogue.

By now everyone who actually wanted already played it since it's been on GWG, Game Pass and the console goes for less than $200 or even less than $100 if 2nd hand.

But it's always good to see games reaching a larger audience.

Well Microsoft is being smart doing an Xbox/Pc policy. Plus physical games almost dying out and getting more money out of the public releasing it on a platform everyone usually has. People should understand that Microsoft doesn't care where it releases their games on be it on pc or xbox but cares about the brand Xbox more as a whole. Bill gates even stated back in the day when they launched their first console that Xbox was started with the sole purpose of playing games on a console and on a pc. Consoles are dying out eventually and next generation will be the last, of that i am sure so it's a smart move of them to also associate Xbox with the pc market instead of being tied to only a select few that own the console

Someday I will play it in game pass, I might get a nex Gen Xbox in the future because of the backwards compatibility, I have a plethora of 360 games, I hope this happens in the next Gen, anyway the mayority of games are multiplatform, and if the ps5 is backwards compatible I won't have any reason to obtain a ps3 or ps4

"Man, I just have to get an Xbox One. It has exclusives no other platform has. Spider-Man? It's just a poor man's Arkham game! Red Dead Redemption 2? Who needs that when you have Grand Theft Auto 5? Only weebs buy PS4...*sees Sunset Overdrive, Killer Instinct, Quantum Break, and Fable on Steam, and finds out Scalebound isn't a thing anymore*

Is this the Xbox One or the WindowsBox One now? Why should I buy a console when I may as well buy any gaming PC at Best Buy!?"

IF PS5 is backwards compatible, it will only be backwards compatible with ps4 not ps3.

Yeah, and the reason why people have a PS4 is to play games like Uncharted, Spider man, God of war, Horizon zero dawn and a whole bunch of other Japanese fighting and rpg games the xbox is severely lacking. I was simply stating a opinion based on observation. Making the xbox have a set of worthwhile exclusive games, then having those games available on pc doesn't help sell the consoles anymore than they already are trying to which is what they want to do cause why else make the console in the first place?

Xbox is becoming more of a service/platform no more will it be a box that you have to buy to get a particular game. Though I can see why people will still buy an Xbox and why I kinda find the whole why buy an Xbox thing kinda ridiculous in order to get these games on your Windows 10 PC your going to have to forgo physical purchases these games aren't on disc for Windows 10 something that lots of Xbox Gamers want to have. Microsoft wants people in there ecosystem and this is a perfect way to go about it now they just have to go all the way.

Personally I like this approach more than Sony's because even if I bought a PS4 to play all the games you listed there is still a significant problem when my PC can do everything a PS4 can't I have a gaming laptop and it can easily curbstomp both consoles. I can play my games at a hotel, I can play them when the TV is occupied, and I don't need to stream them. Microsoft's approach is overall better for gaming because it gives players a choice right now it might not seem like much but the future is going to be a lot more service based than ever before where consoles are going to become what they should have been for quite some time now. A service like Netflix can be accessed anywhere and you can get the content anywhere.

This is good the consoles should have been software years ago hell 8th generation should have been the generation where consoles just became services. Where you are no longer buying a console to play a certain game now you are simply going to go inside the ecosystem and be able to play those games anywhere. If you have a PC then get this app that allows you to play these games anywhere and offline as well, we also have a console so if you like buying disc games there here is your option, you have a mobile phone here's a streaming option for you. The consoles need to become more like this especially since the technology is there. You just need a company like Microsoft to push it.
My personal hopes in the future is that at least with Xbox.
The Xbox Scarlett is not just a console but also Xbox as Software so you can play Xbox Scarlett games on your Windows 10 PC with every game being UWP and Play Anywhere as opposed to just a select amount also allowing you backwards compatibility with all Xbox One titles on your Win 10 PC including Xbox 360 and Xbox Original Games, and stream those games on your .

Hopefully Sony follows suit and ditches these archaic must buy console for these games model personally for me it doesn't make me go out and buy a console and even if I did I still would want to be able to play those games on my PC these consoles just simply aren't satisfactory to my gaming wants. They simply can't do what my PC can do and Microsoft at least acknowledged that now all they need are some heavy hitting titles to bring people into there ecosystem, overall consumer friendly business model and they might give Sony a ride next gen.

agreed. If Sony doesn't follow with that businessmodel then i'm afraid they'll be left in the dust. Consoles being exclusive is turning in to a thing of the past and so is physical media. Microsoft their answer to that problem is that of '' play anywhere '' and our box is going to be a pc gaming box. I don't think either company can survive if they stick to the old making it a closed off platform and totally exclusive. Microsoft is def making the right choice to that upcoming problem. My guess is Sony will take a different approach after the PS5 and make it a streaming platform giving them still control and making their platform as closed off as possible. Sony likes the idea of being totally in power.

If Sony tried the full streaming thing they will be in for a big shock when it goes poorly Microsoft is likely going to go PC can turn into an Xbox thus have access to all Xbox Scarlett titles assuming you meet the minimum required spec completely folding PC into the Xbox ecosystem streaming always be optional if you don't have the hardware to run games. I suspect that concerning Xbox Scarlett games streaming will be an option for PC, Xbox One, Smartphones, and Tablets with full digital downloads being available for Gaming PCs and native Scarlett Hardware.

The battleground won't just be streaming it will be everywhere and I doubt Sony will get a good response if they make it streaming only on one side when Microsoft is allowing for downloads it will be like E3 2013 all over again.

Out of all the companies Microsoft is what I'm more excited with when it comes to next-gen because I strongly feel that they have something special on there hands all they need is the right execution and they could theoretically beat Sony.
Microsoft right now is giving me options I wish the other companies would offer me(The ability to play these exclusives natively on my PC even if I don't own the console, and I hope this expands to all Xbox Scarlett games in the future through UWP)
Hopefully Sony follows suit with something similar if Microsoft's approach proves to be much more profitable and I'm hoping it will be because it means more options for the consumer.

I would have to disagree with you, Sony will not make anything a streaming platform. Game streaming is not the future and will not replace physical and digital games, not even a possibility. There are over 50 million American households that either do not have access to high speed internet or only have access to one provider offering slow speeds around 25mbps which in reality is far less than 25mbps. Not to mention data caps and everything else. Upgrading internet infrastructure would literally cost billions of dollars in America alone. Not something that is going to happen.

Streaming will definitely be the future of gaming or at least a very mainstream option for gaming. Infrastructures are going to upgrade there will come a time where streaming games will be reliable enough for people to use it as a primary source of gaming digital downloads will be a thing but physical games I can see going the way of the dodo bird.

I was talking after the ps5 meaning like 10-12 years in the future. The ps5 will be the last traditional console, pretty sure of that. Pretty sure you'll have the same infrastructure as here by then. There isn't any data cap on mine and the average speed here is 100mbps. Pretty sure by then it will be the same over there. It's just my prediction ofcourse but Microsoft will have the game anywhere policy and providing pc boxes you can use to game on like they almost did with the xbox one it basically being a pc that runs windows and Sony who doesn't like the idea of giving users more power will probably do a streaming service so that way they can stay in control. This def will be the last generation of traditional consoles, Microsoft already knows that and is acting towards that now building out a new service wich emphasizes on gaming everywhere with the Xbox brand attached to it.

I suspect the console gen after ps5 is most likely less than 7 years away. Also, I highly doubt the infrastructure will be upgraded anytime soon. It seems that when an isp expands, they only expand to areas where high speed internet is already available from multiple companies. Many rural areas only have 2 options, dial up or satellite.

If the ps5 will come out it'll be late 2019 - 2020. Consoles usually last +- give or take 6 years. Sometimes less, sometimes about that amount. So that's more about 8-9 years away. 5G will be the future for rural areas and i can see big internet companies expanding the same service they have now for normal internet users to a 5g network. In 10 years we'll even have wireless technology that even surpasses 5g. 5G will support up to 1gbs internet speed wich means it's faster than regular wireless networks

Well then, was Microsoft wrong when they came up with a proprietary wireless communication technology for their controllers for the sole purpose of reducing input lag? I like the idea of streaming for RPGs, walking simulators and such but not much else.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Sunset overdrive itself is very "twitchy" and it could be frustrating over a streaming plataform.

Latest revision Xbox one controllers are also Bluetooth compatible... Having the option for both Bluetooth and the proprietary low latency protocol is really a great thing.

It's sad to see what's the "gaming scene" right now... Instead of being happy that a game will get a release for PC... They start questioning why people should get a xbox one.....

I will try to explain it as easy as possible:
First, when it comes to raw power, no console can beat a PC. People should deal with it and be happy with what they have and the most important part about being a Gamer and not a "gamer", is PLAYING and not saying "maaah console is most powerfulll!!! it's has TITSAFLUPPS!!!" or watching more twitch than actually playing the games....

A low end gaming gpu, like the Nvidia 1060 or amd 580 it will cost around 250 euros more or less.... but you can´t build a PC with only the GPU, you need a case, a PSU, Ram modules, HDD/SSD , a CPU. So now all the sudden your low end PC will cost a lot more than a console..
A high end PC well that's another history... i paid for my 2080ti 1100 euros, so a true high end desktop is around 3 to 4 k euros..
A Gaming laptop is just old tech cramped in laptop format with an insane retail price for the hardware and performance they have... So not even worth the time or the money.

So even a low end PC will cost you more than a console and if you live in a house with more people than one and you cannot afford or a willing to build more than one gaming PC, then a console is good alternative. There is when the magic of xbox one shines, you can share games between PC and Xbox1

Another good case, if you have young kids and don't want them messing with any of your pcs... So hey kid use the console for gaming and a cellphone for internet.

OR hey maybe someone just doesn't fell the need to have a gaming pc at all and then a 500 euros laptop will work great for a general purpose PC and console will allow them to play game and even in this way still cheaper than a low end gaming PC
