Persona 5: The Royal announced for the PlayStation 4, more info due next month

Announced as a surprise drop for New Year's was Persona 5R, and with its reveal came absolutely no information about the upcoming title other than the fact that it existed. That'll change soon, however, as Atlus is planning on finally giving fans more details about what exactly Persona 5R is. Tomorrow, on March 23rd, the finale for Persona 5: The Animation will air, and after it concludes, we'll get to see a peek at some new information regarding the game, according to the official Japanese Twitter account for Persona 5. Stay tuned, as this thread will be updated once the broadcast has completed.

UPDATE:

The teaser reveal has gone live, with the title of the upcoming game officially revealed as Persona 5: The Royal. A female character is shown standing in the crowd. A narration asks, "What are your thoughts on the Phantom Thieves?", with the unknown character responding, "I think helping people is a wonderful thing, but if I had to say, I don't like them. I don't think the Phantom Thieves' methods will make the world a better place or help anyone. In the end, I feel like you can only solve that yourself."

That was all that Atlus revealed, though more information is promised for the upcoming Persona Super Live Concert, which will take place on April 24.

Why were people expecting a mainline persona game for switch in the first place? It is widely known that those are ps exclusives.

You guys have the Q series. Ya all should yell at atlus and nintendo instead so they can work their butts up to develop a third entry in the Q series for the switch.

Smash appearance + Switch being the only active handheld console (and Persona being always released for handhelds) + extremely vague announcement + Atlus likes making surprises + overwhelming requests for Persona 5 Switch since the console hit the shelves. Surely rumors were a bit stretched, but there was just enough to make assumptions and wish for the best.

Besides, Persona isn't exactly the "exclusive" exclusive either - currently it is due to Atlus' loyalty to PlayStation, but franchise is not sponsored by Sony or anything, so it could be potentially released for Nokia N-Gage if devs really wanted to :D

Aren't they basically the same game at its core, at least, at one point?
Persona is about making friends and killing demons, while SMT is more about killing friends and befriending demons

Same company though, no reason for Switch not to have either game RN.

why put joker in smash....if P5 anything isnt on the switch?
I'm hyped and all but still

Because, Atlus be like "but muh PS4 exclusivity" bullshit.

People disappointed with something that was obvious that was not happening
Persona is exclusive to PlayStation
Shin Megami Tensei main games are exclusive to Nintendo, that's why Joker is on Smash

Persona started on the psx and stayed there all the way up to p5. The mainline series is a console exclisive first, then if granted, could be ported to portables. But saying all of the titles headed to portables is a lie, only 1, 2 and 4 were ported, where is 3? And 5 doesnt seem like leaving sony's ps4.

So yeah, most of the hype was just people dreaming and requesting most of stuff to be on switch, something that they shouldnt have done in the first place. I get it, the switch is popular, but NOT everything have or can be there.

Also, joker appears in Q2, so there you go, the reason why he is in smash.
