Homebrew Seems Neimod made a little more progress.

boy this thread really went down the shitter quick

I see what you did there.

On a serious note though, people are only interested in the end result because a progress report doesn't give them anything to work with right now except for more waiting. These things take time, and considering the complexity and delicate nature of what they are working with, it's best to just get on with life as if it won't get hacked. Prevents the feeling of disappointment if it never gets hacked in your lifetime if you decided to wait for it.

I'm taking the approach that it'll happen when it happens, if it happens. Just like I am with Devolution.

I've got a Galaxy Nexus to keep me occupied, and a Nexus 7 on the way. And a server I really need to manage, and a room I really need to clean.

Don't read the second one if you don't like bad news.
Wasn't there a big discussion about the CPU supporting execute disable a while back? Can't find the thread right now, but I remember going over concepts of DEP and the NX bit in relation to the 3DS.

EDIT: Redundancy removed.

That's a bit of a shame. I guess we can always hope, right?

Tbh yes.Cause after all every hack that comes first has problems or is a bit hard to do things.Like passme on the old ds's
I just hope for anything for now atleast. And dont forget at the early days with GBA emulation being impossible on Slot-1 solutions
Ichifly managed something amazing with gba emulation even tho with no sound due to limitations

So a pure software solution is not possible. That's already the case with the DSi. Hm.. what about a flash cart?
I think he means the only possible solution would be to open up the 3DS and insert some kind of modchip, not that anybody has created one yet.

Are you saying a Homebrew app isn't possible through an R4?

While it will probably only be aa hardware hack at first, this will eventually lead to some kind of software hack.

Did you read the IRC log posted above? neimod made it quite clear a software hack will almost certainly not be possible (at all). Because of how the 3DS works, you cannot load new code. Assuming you find an exploit, the best you can do is jump to other (already existing and loaded) code. You'd then have to exploit THAT code (breaking out of the kernel) as well to be able to load custom code. He is 99.9% sure purely software homebrew will not be possible. And this is coming from neimod, who knows the 3DS better than anyone else in the homebrew scene (or probably in Nintendo :P)

EDIT: To clarify (as apparently it is necessary for some), my "probably in Nintendo" comment was a joke.

Legacy did say they had a way to load there dumps
so assume no method that would allow homebrew is possible for now

,

If that was the case, he would probably know where to look for the keys or maybe how to hack it. XD
Only the developers of the system might know everything in it.

If your internet speeds are fast enough. Streaming 4k takes alot. I used to only have 20mb sec, and 4k struggled. Now I have 300mb sec and 4k plays fine.

Did you feed the hamster in your internet router? It prob died and is running slow now.

@BigOnYa, why did you start saying my pc has a hamster in the first place?

I think Game streaming should work like this.... Local Hardware able the run the game fine, game engine and common assets stored locally, all FMV and music and textures could be streaming

also @BigOnYa im making some progress on my gdevelop project, implemented various mechanics

Or free government supplied high speed internet be nice also. Like Obama care. Xdqwerty that's cool, its time consuming but rewarding once done or playable, to see what you've made from scratch. Animations take forever, but worth it.

    @BigOnYa,
and the visual aspect of the game is quite crude (the sprite that looks best is that of the protagonist just because he is a stickman with sunglasses)

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
There is a bullets behaviour you assign to your character, that makes the code easier, under "behaviours"
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
i meant that when the character is pointing to the right, the bullets spawn where they should, but when he is on the right, they move to the right but the spawn point is incorrect
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Itch.io has lots of free assets also. Under the bullets behavior tab, there is a "rotate bullets" option, can try that. Or in the code can try
    - fire bullet Player.X(PlayerDirection)

That's cool tho, I'm proud of you going back to it, not giving up. It is difficult at first to learn, but fun once you get the hang of it. I think I've watched every tutorial video there is, but I still struggle sometimes to get stuff to work right. But gotta keep trying dif things, and eventually you will get it right.
