With a set launch of December 2022, the Super Mario Bros. movie was supposed to hit theaters this year, but that will no longer be the case, following Nintendo's announcement of a delay. Shigeru Miyamoto himself apologized, stating that he and Illumination--the team working on the film--have decided to push the release to Spring 2023, and it will now launch in theaters on April 7th in North America, and April 28th in Japan.

This is Miyamoto. After consulting with Chris-san, my partner at Illumination on the Super Mario Bros. film, we decided to move the global release to Spring 2023–April 28 in Japan and April 7 in North America. My deepest apologies but I promise it will be well worth the wait.

For now, fans are left wondering a little bit longer as to what exactly the movie will be about; we previously have seen the reveal of the official voice cast, which features Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Anya Taylor Joy as Princess Peach, Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong, Keegan-Micheal Key as Toad, and other famous actors playing the roles of various beloved Mario characters.

I wonder if the LEGO Mario line will get some movie tie in sets. Probably given how LEGO loves doing it. (Harry Potter, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Disney, The Angry Birds Movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc. I could probably name like at least 20 other properties LEGO has made before but I do n't want to be here for 5 years so I'll stop)

It's going to be an animation, and considering that Odyssey is somewhat cinematic, I'd say it should do well.

Look at Lego movies, or Angry Birds. The source material wasn't particularly prone to movies, but they managed it.

the angry birds movie was a favorite of mine as a kid. i still enjoy it nowadays but back then i enjoyed it to a much higher degree. I have seen better movies since then (cough cough Scott Pilgrim vs. The World cough cough) so my opinion of the film has gotten worse but i still think it's ok for what it is. Angry Birds Movie 2 is soooooooooo much better tho

Controversial opinion but I didn’t like the Lego Movie, I thought it was rather generic and leaning in on the generic nature doesn’t change that. But that’s literally my opinion and not actually a statement on the quality of the movie because it was a pretty quality movie. I didn’t like Angry Birds, it was pretty meh. That being said, I don’t have much faith in this movie. It might be well made but got a feeling the story is going to be a generic mess that follows the same plot of every movie like this

You don't really need to watch the other ones tbh. I would recommend Lego Batman though, that one is actually good!

Chris Pratt as Mario: What the hey...!!!

Lou Albano is the only live action Mario that will ever be acceptable. Digging up Lou Albano and throwing his black moldy bones and worm-infested skin husk into a wheelbarrow with "Mario" spray painted on the side would be better than Chris Pratt as Mario.

Nothing against Pratt, but I really don't think this is a good fit for his acting style. It really can't be that hard to find someone closer to Albano.

Gonna be a trainwreck, but it'll be hilarious in hindsight.
