Tutorial  Updated

Wii on Wii U Virtual Console: Injecting Games

Requirements:
WiiScrubber v1.40;
nfs2iso2nfs v0.5.4; it may require the Wii common Key. You can use wiiscrubber's key.bin renamed to wii_common_key.bin.
A clean rip of your Wii game;
The extracted contents of a Wii VC title for the Wii U (except the .nfs files);
-the 2 below require java to be installed-
jnustool (requires Wii U common key so you'll have to search online - hint: it begins with D7B0. Open the "config" file in notepad and paste the key inside, replacing [COMMONKEY]);
NUSpacker (must be @ihaveamac's version, requires Wii U common key as well)

Current limitations:
It's possible to use the gamepad to emulate ONLY the Classic Controller.
Wii Remote emulation is possible but there's no gyroscope or infrared commands (at least for now).
(Input emulation patches by @FIX94)

The game must be already compatible with the Classic Controller but that isn't a guarantee that it's going to work.
Here's a compatibility list: http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/WiiU_VC_Wii_inject_compatibility_list

Integrity checks are still in place so only clean disc rips work.
The game iso must be pristine: untrimmed, unscrubbed and the partitions signed.
No homebrew, no mods, no wimmfi patched games until sigpatches are implemented.

Patched isos work now! Original idea by @Tock46!

Homebrew works now, even a special version of Nintendont by @FIX94

Trimmed isos still don't work, at least not isos trimmed by WiiScrubber.

HOW TO DO IT

0. Downloading a Wii VC Title
This may be illegal and I'm just telling you so you don't ever do it by mistake OK?
You can use the command line to download games' contents directly if you know the title id and title key.
I heard you can get them on a certain titlekeys site...

Once you have that, this is the command
Code:
java -jar JNUSTool.jar TITLEID TITLEKEY

NmNYbOu.png

Note: You should get a game that contains the latest revision of fw.img (r590), that's the only version supported by @FIX94's patches.
Here's some info you can use to verify that you have a good file:
Size: 1785497 bytes.
CRC32: E2F27E9B
MD5: 3CAF52A9A440EEE4F125A3AD22E305C8
SHA: A5A75EBF3164874830A1D5992495DE510AB3F74E

Now here's a list of some titles that contain the preferred fw.img (verified mostly by @fejich and @markehmus)
DONKEY KONG JUNGLE BEAT [VBXE01]
Kirby's Epic Yarn [VARE01]
Lost in Shadow [VA8E01]
Mario Strikers Charged [VBFE01]
Mario Super Sluggers [VBHE01]
Pandora's Tower [VAPE01]
PIKMIN 2 [VBTE01]
PIKMIN [VBUE01]
Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition [VBDE01]
Resident Evil The Umbrella Chronicles [VBWE01]
Rhythm Heaven Fever [VAKE01]
Sin and Punishment Star Successor [VALE01]
Super Mario Galaxy [VBKJ01]
Super Paper Mario [VBBE01]
The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword [VANE01]
Trauma Team [VA6E01]
Wario Land Shake It [VBGE01]
WARIO WARE SMOOTH MOVES [VBVE01]

-----------------------------------------------

1. WiiScrubber
First setup WiiScrubber. Remember it needs the Wii common keys so run MakeKeyBin.exe first and do as it says.
Run it and open you iso. Right-click the UPDATE partition and select "Delete partition". Confirm.
uE02Phr.png

Now click on the + box to expand the DATA partition, then expand partition.bin.
Right click tmd.bin, select "Extract" and save it.
Do the same with ticket.bin.
jJPl3Wy.png

Rename the extracted ticket.bin to rvlt.tik
Rename the extracted tmd.bin to rvlt.tmd

Copy/move both files to the "code" folder of the Wii VC title.

Your iso is now ready and you can close WiiScrubber.

2. nfs2iso2nfs
Move your iso to the "content" folder of the Wii VC. Rename the file to "game.iso".
The content folder should contain only game.iso and the "assets" folder. Delete any nfs files that are still present.

Copy nfs2iso2nfs.exe to the content folder and run it. If everything is in place, it will begin the conversion process.
It should take around 15 minutes. Its console window will close when it's finished.
Once it ends you can delete your iso file and nfs2iso2nfs.exe (and wii_common_key.bin if it exists).
The content folder should contain only the nfs files and the "assets" folder.

Optional: You can enable Classic Controller emulation for playing using only the gamepad.
Open meta.xml (it's in the meta folder) in notepad.
Look for the line
Code:
<drc_use type="unsignedInt" length="4">1</drc_use>

replace it with
Code:
<drc_use type="unsignedInt" length="4">65537</drc_use>
and save the file.
Note that this will only work if the game supports the Classic Controller.
If it doesn't either it won't boot or you won't be able to do anything and only the gamepad's power button will work.
Here's a list of such games: https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/List_of_Wii_games_compatible_with_Classic_Controller

3.NUSpacker
The final part, building the installation files.
NUSpacker requires the Wii U common key. You should find it online and then open the file "encryptKeyWith" with
notepad and paste the key inside (hint: it begins with D7B0)

It's also a command line tool so you'll have to write down the commands, or simply create a new text file,
write the command inside, save it and change the extension from .txt to .bat

I recommend copying the Wii VC folder (that contains the other 3 folders, code, content and meta) to nuspacker's folder.
That will make everything easier.

The command works like this (replace with the names of your own folders)
If you folders have spaces in their names, enclose them in quotation marks, like "Just Dance".
Code:
java -jar nuspacker.jar -in GAME_FOLDER -out INSTALATION_FILES_FOLDER

Wiait until it finishes the process.
Now just copy the folder with the installation data to the "install" folder SD card, run a CFW and install it with WUP Installer GX2!

PS: If you make a nonfunctional game, remember to uninstall it before trying again.
If you install a fiunctional game over a broken installation, it will still appear as broken.

Amazingly I was able to modify my SSBB iso to have project m included inside, then using this guide I injected the iOS into xenoblade chronicles VC Wii. The game worked flawlessly and even carried over my save from when I playing through vWii. The gamepad functions just like a cc which is an awesome extra. I wonder if it would be possible to add other controllers like the Wii U Pro Controller in the future, although I don't know how that would work. One thing I would like to know is how to change the image of the injected game on the Wii u home screen and possibly the game startup screen. Currently, it simply shows the standard xenoblade images but the injected game loads right after.

Here's a thread with templates for the images and user-uploaded banners/icons

https://gbatemp.net/threads/banners-icon-templates-for-wii-vc.483080/

Just create the .tga files as instructed, and put them in the meta folder (overwrite) before you use NUSPacker, and it should work perfectly :)

Is it possible to use the same VC to install multiple games?

I don't think it is possible since it might require a mayor REing into the IOS255 (fw.img), which I highly doubt it happens.

Does anyone know what could be causing this error?
I did two successful injects before running into this problem and can't seem to make them work anymore, I don't know what I'm doing wrong

I'm not 100% sure but you may have installed a VC over another with the same ID?

So I converted my modded mario kart wii wbfs file back to .iso, but now after following the instructions and trying to install it it gives me the error, "Verify WUP files are correct and complete. DLC/E-shop require Sig Patch". Which is weird because I'm already running CBHC cfw. Any ideas?
b6Kx0zd.png

edit: also, can I use the same VC more than once?

The Key is meta images
https://gbatemp.net/threads/tgaverifiy-a-tga-verifier.450997/

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I am currently filling some of the Japanese version and the Taiwan version of the Wii game, can not normally run on the EUR version of WiiU

Can only get a black screen or green screen

But the USA version of WiiU looks like a lot better

Change meta icons, I tried PES 2013 like 5 times and always the same, then I saw that when it says Do you want to use the GamePad?, in the top right corner appeares the manual and the icon is a grey ?, So I decided to open a redNAND broken title (with grey ? in icon) and it gave me a too similar error, so I used Mario Maker's meta stuff and now works, someone could put it in OP, if manual icon is grey change meta
Bye!

The problem was the meta images after all, I got confused because sometimes the game displays as '???' and other times it will display properly but the manual will be grayed out leading to the error I had, it seems they're both due to the same thing - the tga files not being right! Thanks :)

Yeah I was confused too, the icon in menu was right but in manual no, seems that if you pack a game the Wii u must display the icon yes or yes, that's why I replaced everything with Mario Maker, the 4 icons, manual, sound, pegi images....

I'm trying to install MKWii to my WiiU menu and I have a few questions:

- Do I have to change the game ID in /code/app.xml, too? Or just in meta.xml?
- What are the things I can / should change in meta.xml?
- Does the "product code" (WUP-N-VAEP) have to be unique, too?
- what about "group_id". what is that for?
- I know we can't use gamepad and wiimote at the same time, but can a game patched for gamepad use (65537) can use the Wiimote while not using the gamepad? Or do I have to install twice if I want to be able to play with pad or wiimote? Do I need to set the "ext_*"-flags?
- What about "network_use"? Do I have to set this to 1 if I want to use Wiimmfi?

EDIT:
- When packing with NUSPacker, it said "parsing app.xml" and that values will be overwritten and then displayed the Xenoblade IDs and not the ones I entered in meta.xml. Is that a problem?

1) Yep, both app.xml and meta.xml need to be changed
2) Title ID, gamepad support (drc_use), and the names are all things that you can/should be changing.
3) Nope, product code can be the same across multiple different games
4) Yep, when booting the game up it asks if you want to use the gamepad or not- yes for just gamepad, no for just wiimotes.
5) Not entirely sure, never touched that.
6) If you've done everything right (including editing the app.xml) then it should be fine, I think?

Hm, for some reason this doesn't work for me.

I used wit to get an ISO with just the "game" partition, just changed game name and game ID in the meta and app.xml and added a new icon.
I installed the game and it shows up in the menu, with the correct icon, title, loading screen.
When I boot it, I see the black screen on the gamepad with the white "Wii" logo, then it turns black, then the WiiU restarts.

What might be the problem?

EDIT:

Apparantly, the fw patch failed:
Code:
$ md5sum Mario\ Kart\ Wii\ \[RMCP01\]/code/fw.img JNUSTool/Xenoblade\ Chronicles\ \[VAEP01\]/code/fw.img
4df41fb30ca3d8cc43f4eb6034589a0f Mario Kart Wii [RMCP01]/code/fw.img
4df41fb30ca3d8cc43f4eb6034589a0f JNUSTool/Xenoblade Chronicles [VAEP01]/code/fw.img
Let me repatch it ...

EDIT 2: Repatched it (new MD5 sum ad472e9f4ce86ae03d5a1be0212bf05e), still the same error. Can someone check if that is the correct MD5 for a patched Xenoblade PAL fw.img?

How far has the injection of Homebrew Channel or Nintendont advanced? thank you
Homebrew Channel is unlikely because it's not a .dol and Nintendont Wont work until fw.img is cracked open further to allow IOS reloading or patched with Cios features?
There are other options though.

I wrote 3 bat files to convert games.

1. In this folder, unpack the ISO image of the Wii game
2. In Photoshop we draw logos based on the psd files bootTvTex.psd and iconTex.psd
3. Enter the name of the company that created the game in the publisher.txt file
If there is no file or it is empty, the company name will not be specified
4. Fill in the TitleID.txt file with some kind of identifier chosen by you
If there is no file or it is empty, random TitleID will be generated
5. Run sequentially
1_REBUILD.bat
2_CONVERT.bat
3_Make NUS.bat

As a result, you should get a folder with the name of the game and in it NUS files for installation
Used Xenoblade Chronicles as base.
Automatically fill in the fields: product_code, company_code, title_id, longname, shortname in meta.xml and app.xml

I do not translate well into English. Help make a correct translation of phrases from bat files. And remove from the archive all illegal material and describe where to get files legally.

https://mega.nz/#!6UwDxJYT!k2U6NDz_uvNz1x4bseUC9-jS0iUaa8Fh8YhqMjkuV9I

Thanks to all the creators of the wonderful programs that I used!

I will delete the link and file as soon as you say. Write your instruction how to get the working assembly.

There are 3 different known fw.img from games
Donkey Kong Country Returns
The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword
Xenoblade Chronicles

Game: A Boy and his Blob (EUR)
Used Xenoblade Chronicles as base. Tablet work in game as pro controller.
But
The game has problems with loading the secret sublevel on the left at level 2-9.
When we go to the sublevel, we get a black screen. :(
A similar problem on real Wi with different loaders except SNEEK

Game:The House of the Dead - Overkill [RHOP8P](EUR)
Used Xenoblade Chronicles as base.
Works without problems. Tablet not supported.
