I mean, they did it before if I'm not mistaken in an old update of theirs
Updates are one thing, hacking an entire console revision is another.
Some people think publicity, good or bad, is still publicity either way for them. TX and it's shady resellers definetly would go in that category.
Publicity is publicity, yes, but credibility is another factor as well. If they announce an entire deal like this, then don't deliver (if it is indeed fake), they're going to have a very large and apparent stain on their reputation from the entire scene, sx fans and haters alike. That, no matter what, is a loss for them.
But why put it on the front page? Speculation threads are pretty common on GBATemp (and is one of the reasons I don't frequently post on this site as much as I used to), but this is the one that gets frontpaged somehow.
Because it does come from a source that isn't a random kid saying "but what if 4k dolphin on switch gais". This is a storefront divulging "exclusive" information. You have a piece of information from a person claiming connections to the company itself. TX hasn't come out to deny it, and considering gary's rep with tx, if he wants to further blast that announcement out, then it's clear there's something to it.
Have you considered the amount of replies may be a little bit inflated by the fact this was frontpaged in spite of being more or less baseless speculation and people are confused/annoyed
...That happens with literally anything SX ever, though. Half the comments are always unfounded hate from other CFW fans, just like how Atmo updates get unfounded hate from the SX bandwagon. And again, as minimal of a source as it is, it still is a source claiming they spoke with TX, with the resident TX spokesperson appearing to back it up. Had I had any input on this, I woulda added a rumor tag, and changed the wording of the title, but I wouldn't have found it entirely unfit for the front page. I still think there's enough to be relevant to blip onto people's radars.
it's pushing actual newsworthy items down the list of recent news? I'm one of the people that uses GBATemps front page to more or less keep up-to-date with new game and homebrew announcements as well as the occasional interesting opinion piece.
I'm one of the people who writes GBAtemp's news lol. It's pushing down the topics of an overly slow week by 1 tile. I mean, I get it. It's a weird topic and the information behind it is sketchy. I'm not going all out defender for this post, but it's not like some atomic sin of mankind for it to be there.
