A word of advice: For Idea Factory games that use STCM script format like Brilliance Blue, try to include the "switch" code as a remark when you extract scripts. This switch code will make things more convenient for the translators. (This code will mark the choices and you can roughly identify when the dialogs branch, when they end, and when they branch back, etc.)
reencrypt noted, but where in the iso would I repack the .pgd file? Since we had to use jcpsp to take it out, the .pgd is not actually visible when we browse the iso with UMDGen.
I don't really use any script extracting software; I manually delete the hexes between lines of script. I've noticed switch on choices, yeah, and that flg_memory is usually a few lines before the actual script starts.
(I explain this from my memory, so it's not exact. But you should be able to figure out when you open the actual program.)
In JPCSP's PGD folder, it should have a number in the file name or folder name. Then open the ISO with UMDGen and see the file list. It'll list file locations as number. Find the number that matches the number in PGD file name. That's the file you need to replace. (First rename PGD file to the file name you see in UMDGen.)
By the way, it's also a good idea to try to insert some English text in the game and see how many characters are allowed per line and how many lines are allowed in each dialog box, etc. And usually, text for choices will have stricter limitation than dialog text. (Some game allows only one line of text for choice, etc.)
Distributing patched ISO is as bad as distributing original ISO.if I can't find a way to patch the game externally, I'll have to rebuild the .iso, right? considering that the forum prohibits access to the original .iso, how acceptable is distributing a patched .iso?
thesebzgal, if you have some scripts translated, you should try to make a test patch and run it on PSP to check if everything goes well with the program/scripts/etc. If there's any problem, you can spot and fix it early. Don't trust emulators too much. I just learned my lesson that things that worked on emulators might not work on PSP. T_T
