Sony's mysterious PS4 Neo has been officially revealed as the PS4 Pro, and will be releasing this year on November 10, 2016. The console will cost $399USD/£349GBP, and will support 4K gaming and videos. Playstation VR will get a huge visual boost on the Pro, as well as older games getting "forward support" to allow them to be played in 4K resolution.

Xbox S also isint even as powerful as the original PS4 so make your choice whats more important? power or movies? It's obvious Sony doesn't see 4k bluerays as a selling point.

I'm not worried about what's important or what I prefer, I'm saying that Sony made 4K Blu-ray yet are happy to not have it in their consoles while their competitor does. Seems like a pre-emptive turning of the back on 4K UHD Blu-ray. To be fair they're probably right thanks to the rise of streaming media services (Netflix/Amazon Prime), but it just makes them look stupid.

BTW neither console can do 4k gaming. That's why 4k is a complete gimmick right now.

The reason it's a complete gimmick, IMO, is that the difference between 1080p and 4K is not as noticeable as the jump from SD to HD in the first place. Yes, I can tell the difference but it's not so extreme it bothers me. Most people I know don't own a regular Blu-ray player let alone a 4K one and the TV to match.

He compares high end gaming pc's to fucking consoles that's what hurts my head. If consoles ever competed with PC's they would be over $1000 and NO ONE except HARDCORE gamers would buy them. Which is why the Scorpio will fail.

Yes, but we've just eliminated the PS4 Pro providing 1080p60 across all games (can probably, but do developers want to do the patching to support it?), providing true 4K gaming or even a better than average approximation of it (not enough power, CPU/GPU throughput bottleneck) or 4K UHD Blu-ray support. So what we've done here is identify the sole reason for the PS4 Pro's existence and that is PSVR. I think based on all that's been said and the articles about it online that's a more than reasonable assumption.

VR is more niche than 4K, so basically it's a boneheaded idea of a console and I'm chuckling at Sony's choice to make it, because it's exactly the sort of thing that "no one except hardcore gamers would buy".

Design wise looks amazing specs are also pretty good wonder if there's anything else along with it
Other than good specs and design it's just the same thing with 4K

I agree with most of what you said, especially VR being more of a gimmick then 4k blueray. But Let me ask you this what is Scorpio aiming for then? because it's not a 4k gaming machine either NO WAY. So what just a really high powered media center? all these consoles are stop gaps in between which i really fucking hate. I hope they all fail miserably so Sony and MS can just stick to traditional lifeline of consoles.

I do agree it seems Sony doesn't care for 4k bluerays...or maybe the PS4 has the hardware and it can be enabled through firmware? but why would they wait...

I find the whining in this thread hilarious. This is from the same crowd that defend Nintendos weak systems over and over because power doesn't matter, graphics don't matter, framerates don't matter when tons of 3DS games run in the sub 20fps. Now it is a travesty because the PS4P cant do 4k 60FPS (for AAA games anyway).

OH NO BETTER TAKE THE PS4P OFF OF YOUR SHOPPING LIST, BECAUSE YOU WERE REALLY PLANNING ON BUYING ONE OTHERWISE, RIGHT?!?!

I eagerly await for the record to get flipped over when the NX comes out with its cell phone GPU and sub HD display. The hilarity will be priceless once again.

if the original PS4 can run 60frames then this one will run 60frames, Sony isn't sacrificing performance for the graphics quality, they are smarter than that

Lol. Well this is a forum to discuss console related stuff to death, right? So that's what's going on.

Nintendo haven't been in the hardware arms race for years, and yeah, overall that's not what matters. I wrote that much in the first post I made in this thread. What I find is, when I'm playing the Wii U I find the graphics good enough to facilitate the fun of the game, which is the point, rather than being the driving focus. I can't do that so much with the PS4 because of the few games I like on it, like The Witcher 3, would benefit more from extra processing power. Yeah sure I could PC Master Race it but that doesn't interest me, so as the types of games and target market for the PS4 is different I judge it differently from the Wii U. Which incidentally has no problems running quite a few games at a rock solid 1080p60; less complex graphically but more immersive.

But the point is, I think what I'm trying to do here, and several others from what I can tell, is work out exactly what Sony were going for with the PS4P, since it over promises and under delivers. Now with the original PS4 being the most powerful console of the three when it released obviously Sony care(d) about staying ahead of the competition, so when they come to release a souped up version of the same it's not unfair to judge them on that basis. I see it as they've over promised and under delivered again, which they are wont to do, and that they've just released this to facilitate PSVR, so it's targeted mostly at a subset of gamers who want that.

I eagerly await for the record to get flipped over when the NX comes out with its cell phone GPU and sub HD display. The hilarity will be priceless once again.

Hey, at least it'll be more interesting than just an incremental increase in power. I think the 900p display mentioned in the draft specs for the NX are referring to the companion handheld that bundles with it, which assuming a 5-7 inch screen is sufficient, and of course the main base console will run 1080p since the Wii U already does because although Nintendo don't go forwards in terms of hardware power as much as the other two (the Wii is more powerful than the GameCube, for example, but not by much) they certainly don't go backwards. And it'll also hopefully have poor cryptography as compared to the Sony offerings so if it has a vWiiU like the Wii U currently has a vWii we can theoretically back port all the home-brew from the Wii U, Wii and GameCube and have four consoles for the price of one, more if you count the ability to support Virtual Console titles, maybe including 3DS support in the same way the Wii U supports the original DS. Potentially a device able to play games across multiple Nintendo generations, who knows? More fun to think about than "oh look, it's the same as I already have just slightly more powerful". Remember that every Sony PlayStation device can play PS1 games except the PS4, so how's that for backward compatibility? Lol.

I'm sure you're talking about other people since I haven't complained other than pointing out a few things, but my main gripe with the system is that they're marketing it as 4K capable when that's clearly misleading as to what it's actually putting out to the screen

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
