The Game Awards are almost here, and you know what that means! Watching dozens of commercials and meandering interviews with developers until we get to the good stuff at the end: game reveals for the following year. There have been teases here and there, with Microsoft seemingly having something big to reveal at the show, and Persona 5: Strikers presumably would have been another announcement dropped during the ceremony, had it not leaked beforehand. We'll even get to see the former Nintendo of America President, as Reggie Fils-Aime will be one of the many presenters for The Game Awards.

But before the festivities kick off, why don't we play a guessing game? There are a whopping 30 categories full of nominees, ranging from best eSports host, to the glorious game of the year. We've narrowed down the topic list to 10 categories, as follows.

• Best Performance (Ashley Johnson/Ellie/TLOU2, Laura Bailey/Abby/TLOU2, Daisuke Tsuji/Jin Sakai/Ghost of Tsushima, Logan Cunningham/Hades, Nadi Jeter/Miles Morales)
• Best Indie (Carrion, Fall Guys, Hades, Spelunky 2, Spiritfarer)
• Best Role Playing (Final Fantasy VII Remake, Genshin Impact, Persona 5 Royale, Wasteland 3, Yakuza: Like a Dragon)
• Games for Impact (If Found, Kentucky Route Zero, Spiritfarer, Tell Me Why, Through the Darkest of Times)

You can see all of the nominees at the official Game Awards website. The goal of this contest is to see who can guess as many winners as possible, before the official results come in! The first commenter in the thread that manages the feat of perfectly guessing the ten winners in each category above (or if no one gets a clean sweep, the first to get as close as humanly possible) above will get a nice reward: 202 XP! I didn't play the last of us 1 nor 2, nor do i care about video game awards because they generally aren't in line with what I like in general anyway.
But what I recall that i found very questionable is that they actually were proud to say that TLOU2 had a "dedicated jump button".
If that's something you need to emphasize about a game, then there's probably something not going right.
Storywise, it seems that joel did some things that didn't fit his character in TLOU1 at all and got him killed because of it. Poor writing.
Either way, besides that from hearsay there's apparantly some clichés in there when it comes to MUH REVENGE turning into REVENGE BAD MUST FORGIVE or something
I can see why there would be reasons to question TLOU2 as a GOTY even without playing it, if those points are true. I'm just not that interested in "serious" movie games.

Personally I would hope for ghost of tsushima to win something, I feel like it deserves it, even though that game also has its flaws. But what game doesn't in the end eh

1. youre overblowing the jump aspect. it wasnt in the first game so they mentioned the change compared to it
2. joel already changes during tlou1, hes not the same at the beginning of the game compared to the end. in tlou2 we learn how he changed further. none of his actions are out of character. the section people blame him for almost happened exactly like that in the first game too. not that its his fault in the first place.
3. "revenge bad" is not the story at all

it's only an ad, as tradition dictates, the prize is going to whoever coughs up the most money for the prizes, the others just paid enough to be there as an ad space, to be mentioned and talked about.
nintendo is probably going to buy one for AC to cover up for it being the most shallow in the entire series by an insane amount.

what i don't like about these awards is that usually it only focus or favors games of a certain region, in this case US and it's all based on US releases, so some insanely good games from japan don't even get to be a contender for it.

I tried watching this a couple of times and the gamer empowerment talk and the "games are art because we said so" speeches they give were so embarrassing I couldn't endure more than like 15, 30 mins

eventually i just stopped caring.

it's just this thin wanting to be the oscars, but instead of a fancy gala it's a bunch of bros with a bucket of doritos and a gallon of monster dew talking about how frozen is actually cool for guys to watch because they grew up with princess peach

I think Animal Crossing is the only game that truly deserves to be GOTY. This isn't bias as I barely played it past month 1 and I have a banned Switch, but you could turn your head without hearing about this game for most of the year, but that's just me.
