You guys need to chill and stop being assholes when someone asks a simple question. Maybe most of you are too young to remember that there were online alternatives for several systems that didn't even require a hacked console. Or maybe you guys dont know as much as you think you do. It worked with proxy servers and pc tools. Original xbox, xbox 360, ps3, ps2 and psp to name a few. If a team of people really wanted to, it's quite possible to make a free online service to mimic what ever service the system in question has. It's been done.
From that consoles only Xbox was paid and at the begining xlink and that kind of services sucked on the 360 only actually playable after hacking the system and removing the ping limit.

And most games we could find players was Halo and crap COD on the Xbox side.

I'm not saying it was perfect. My point was these kids on the first page, some of the shittier comments now deleted, join gbatemp, have experience with only the current Gen scenes and think they know it all. Which isn't too bad except for the fact that when a noob ask a simple question these kids become total assholes and don't even know what they're talking about.

Edit, it's one of my peeves

Am I the only one that thinks Nintendos price for a whole year is kind of fair compared to the others? Sure PC is totally free, but that's because a whole bunch of reasons. Mostly the open nature.
you know if people like you would just STFU with this sentiment and protest and complain instead of encouraging them then they would just reverse their course and not charge at all
remember xboxone DRM policy?

A tunnel system to put local/Lan play online does not replace an online service. The option was great, like Xlink and the like. Playing Phantasy Star Portable 2 was fun.. I even bought some shitty adapter.

I know is off topic but why do people dismiss the joycons as bad controllers? Is mostly used for motion controls and simple way to have two player games without having to have a brand new accessory added. It comes with a joycon grip and the two wrist straps for single use for a reason, does anyone use it before talking about how bad it is? For all we know it didn't even need to be a controller. You would be Forced to buy the pro controller as the only way to play standard games with a more common controller and No i am saying officially, not using those controller emulators people like talking about (mayflash)

They did put in the effort to make a motion control system, that can work as a standard controller and split as dual multiplayer controllers, and no one can appreciate they tried something new that hasn't been done before simply cause "The pro controller is best, worth the $70":ninja:

If there was a down vote option on the site, I will give you not 1 but more like a 100... People these days only want hombrew for pirate games, there is so mucho more than that and cheating...
yeah if by "people" you mean '95% of people waiting for CFW' then yeah youre right

what is this naive mentality where people think the vast majority of people DONT want to get free games

The pc end replaced the online service features. Friends list, game finding, score keeping, etc.

If you can't handle $25 for a year or online play you really shouldn't be gaming and should instead be worrying about your financial situation.

My guess is most people buying another switch just for homebrew are doing it with the hopes of piracy. I just don't see the point in paying $300 purely for userland homebrew. For less money you can pick up something like the nvidia shield portable for emulators, which will have a native emulator without the need for exploits to run them.

We all agree the point to buying a second console is for piracy, so what?

ill be honest, i completely forgot the ergonomics and design of a switch, the way it functions as a portable console + the joycons being absolutely wonderful to use does make it seem like a top tier emu machine

I'm just curious if there is anyone who is or is going to work on something that's going to get free online for games ?

(For example I pirated rocket league with the ability to connect to official online servers some time ago)
Unless you pay for the services, you won't be able to play with others. There's an alternative on the Wii called WiiMFI or something like that. Even if this makes it, you would only be able to play with people from games on that same server. I'm not even sure if some games like Minecraft would even work with this on servers such as Mineplex in the near future.

We go from homebrew for free online to tunnels to buying second consoles. Where's the consistency here?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I spose.

The point is it's been shown that piracy is not very likely to happen on the switch due to its much tougher security. On top of that unless we get homebrew exploits for higher firmware you'll be stuck with only the first 7 months of games releases to pirate, and that's if you got piracy. It likely won't be as easy as dumping the game and installing it on another.

But paying $300 for it? And the economics of the switch aren't that great by default. The nvidia shield portable is much more comfortable to use

People say this every gen. The 3ds was "impossible". There will be a way to spoof fw without tripping efuses. Mark my words.
