Yeah, the new person in charge isn't doing anything better. We still have dislikes not shown and now this.

Yeah they're definitely getting more aggressive with this shit now. I just use "block element" on the popup and invisible overlay each time.

If there were any notable alternatives to YouTube it'd be one thing, but Google was sure to solidify their monopoly on long-form video hosting before springing this shit on us. Seems like it could be grounds for a lawsuit, especially given how bad they are about QA testing. They publish tons of adverts with viruses and malware.
